Did anyone just see this??

At the end of her last episode, Serena was fired by her boss, and she asked him "Is this because I'm a lesbian?"

Four years she was on that show, and this is the first we've heard of that!

He said it had nothing to do with it, by the way.

I thought the firing was unfair, but who would have ever thought she would "come out" like that? Did you get a glimpse of the new DA in the previews? I can't wait for the next week. Big change!

I can't belive you of all people, Q, could actually enjoy that totalitarian crap.

And that goes for the rest of you too.

Pure Hollywood! Totalitarian Hollywood, that is. :p

Ironically, people keep saying how realistic the show is and that frightens me.

They choose a suspect and gather evidence against him, instead of gathering evidence and letting it lead them to a suspect.

Yeah, it's an all too patented script and plot. Sort of like NYPD Blue. Though, the realism of it is what keeps you on the edge of your chair, and coming back for more. Maybe Scott Petterson would have had better luck with the L&O team!

Well it just kinda mirrors the way things are going, doesn't it?

And you don't think that's realistic?

At least it's filmed in NYC and most of the actors are NYC theatre actors. No tan gods for them, no.

They film around where I live all the time.

Yes, that's why I said it's frightening.

Though I would say thought it's not so much headed that way as it's been that way for decades. The term Law & Order for example was used in the 70s as a sort of sideways reference to keeping the blacks and other uppity types in line.

queue, i almost started a thread on the geebee about this very line, but thought i would pop over here and see if it was being discussed...

it was a really weird and out of place line.

i think i'm going to cap off the rest of my conversations this weekend with just that.

"would you like fries with that?"

"um, no thanks. is this because i'm a lesbian?"

didn't this happen on la law?

we hear hide nor hair of elizabeth rohm's character's love life. it's nonexistant... but as she is being handed her walking papers, her last line to her boss is about her sexual preferance.

then fade to black and credits, like a weird lesbian twilight zone.

It was like the punch line to a joke that didn't make sense.

except some nonsensical jokes are funny, like I swear on my mother's grave, but you're mother's not dead, well if I go back on my word I'll kill her. Now that's funny, but it doesn't make snese. possibly it's funny because it doesn't make sense.

But this lesbian lawyer thing is just weird.

This was a total shock to me as well, they really have not explored her personal side at all on the show, and then just throw that out there as she is leaving??
Maybe she is not leaving, and this is just the begining of a new story line? Her hot looks will be missed for sure, I hope she comes back.

i've never seen it ... but part of me wants to say it's really clever and dealing with that whole issue of having a gay character and letting the character just be a normal character

but nah ... i'm sure the shows writers will say now yeah we've done that whole gay character thing we had one for four years ... you just didn't know about it :)

so is she off the show for good now or coming back?
can you let us know if she come's back to the show?

It was advertised that she was leaving the show, and this would be her last appearance.

The show focuses so exclusively on the character's work lives that we know very little about their backgtound or personal relationships. So, I doubt if she will return.

I see it as a cheap attempt to generate "drama" for the show. The character was never portrayed as being a lesbian from what I've read. To then have her make that kind of statement wasn't being true to the character. There should have been at least some hint or suspicion at some time during the show that she might be queer.

What the writers did was not a smart move to take with a plot of any show. Inserting a surprise "twist" that is completely outside of a character's personality is a great way to piss off viewers ... and lose them in the process. It's a poor writing style, and quite typical of bad writers struggling to make their plot interesting. It typically fails too.
