You're not actually using ellipses, you're abusing them.

Ellipses are three periods in a row in the middle of sentences or four periods at the end singularly used to indicate omission.

You're just confusing your punctuation in an irritatingly so not cute manner.

Why do you do it anyway? Ignorance? You think it's adorable? You think it adds flavor to your posts? You think it makes you look intelligent? What?

the only thing that makes me adorable is my smile, what make me intelligent is my brain, what I think ads flavour to my posts is my personality . The abuse of ellipses it is actually just a bad habit...

I do it because i think it's better than typing *pauses* all the time.

But that's just me. And i'm not changing who i am to please someone else.

I like Kitte the way she is :D

Aww thanks Strawberry! I think your pretty tasty too!:D

Is it really that big of a deal?

I understand the problem with ellipses in formal writing, but this is a message board. This is clearly not formal writing and various techniques attempt to translate the feel of verbal communcation into text more clearly. Ellipses are used to signify a pause in thought, often, in this style of writing.

"I just think that... well, that's just stupid." I prefer that to, "That's stupid," because I can imagine it being spoken. Granted, it takes more time to read so there won't be any efficiency awards won.

I'm just finding the fanatic complaining about ellipses more annoying than the ellipses themselves. *Shrugs.*

Aww Hell!

I Have Been Using Caps At The Beginning Of Each Word Since I Got Here, Everybody Hates It, But, Well, I Really Could Care Less!

LOL

It's Quite The Problem, This Shift Keyitis That I Have:D

This Elipse Thing That Everybody Has A Problem With Is A Leftover Habit From Chatrooms!

I Wanna Eat Yer Pussy Sooo Bad....Do You Wanna Eat My Pussy?....ASL?....Do You Wanna Cyber Over Icq?...This Chatroom Thing Is Moving A Little Too Fast Fer Me!....

Let Yer Brain Do The Typing, Don't Be Rude, Nasty, Or Stupid, And Everyone'll Come Around:D

So I Can See How It Annoys Them. It Probably Would Be A Good Idea To Practice Writing And Punctuating Things In The Right Way:D

No, she's correct. I have to admit, it's helped me. I used to be an ellipse abuser, and sometimes still am. It's a struggle, but I'm getting better.

This is one of the best places to practice using the correct grammar. The more you abuse the ellipse, the more you will in your actual writing. She's helping Kitte with some sage advice.

If you want snitty, deal with Marxist telling you "You'll never be a writer for the S.A.T.'s". That's biting. Muffie was making a valid point.

Sorry, if my obssesive ellipsing offends. I just really use my time here to relax and forget about the million rules of grammer that I fight with all of the time in my writing.

I wasn't aware I would be graded on grammer and that my innocent joke would be taken so out of context.

Kitte,

I am also a newbie and you know what ?

I don't mind you using ellipses ...

Go on with your bad self ! ;)

KM uses slang and incorrect grammar in her posts at times, as we all do. This is a place where people often translate speech into writing. Not too many people are writing a dissertation on the General Board. Obviously we're all entitled to our opinions. I think elipses come in handy sometimes when the peculiarities of speech cannot be otherwise communicated.

It is not as if kitte was throwing periods at anyone, geez. . .

Kitte, don't get your fur in a bunch. Take the advice or don't. I'm not trying to be evil. I think you're a cool cat. I'm just letting you know that it's annoying. It's a difficult thing, swimming through a sea of ellipses.
Advice isn't meant to be offensive. Choose what you will.

as for the lavendar thang,
She probably doesn't know you. I really don't know how this thread will endear you to her, either.

Are you ellipsive compulsive?

Grades will be posted at the end of the term. In the meantime, where you're saying "ellipsing" I believe the proper form of the word is... ellipsification.

TWB, you've been in a snit on the boards for the past couple of days. I saw you bite at alexandraaah, and now Muffie. Is this really how you want to portray yourself, champion of the ellipse and biter of intelligent women?

I'm with Azure here. I don't think it's a really big deal.

I'm a professional woman and I know how to write a business letter or proposal. I do it all the time.

I also tend to use ellipses here at Lit. I use them to show a pause in my thinking - usually for effect. There are times when a period is not what I'm looking for, I don't want to STOP. Yes, a comma should be used for pauses, sometimes. But the use of ellipses more acurately displays in writing what a pause would in speaking.

Actually, Webster's defines it as follows:

1) the omission of one or more words that are obviously understood but that must be supplied to make a construction grammatically complete.

2) Marks or a mark (as ... or *** or ---) indicating an ommission (as of words) or a pause .

So... I say let's let it lie. Would we be so quick to correct someone in person - someone we didn't know very well? And, if we were going to do that - to a "friend" - wouldn't we take them aside and do it privately? I would hope so.

Thank you Knight! Now will my grades be mailed to me or do I get them in person in some sort of pervy conference?
