My brother's wife (widow - still have trouble equating that) just returned from a visit to Mississippi. After my brother's death she put most of their stuff in storage and she and her son moved in with her parents.
Well, because of Katrina their stuff has been destroyed. All of it. She had some photos with her, some personal effects, a few wedding things, but the bulk of everything was still in storage. And now it's gone. I know it can't truly compare to those who lost homes or their lives, but it is still very upsetting.
But when we spoke to her on the phone earlier my mother asked her what John would have said about the situation. Her reply?
She yelled, "Why in the hell didn't you get your shit out of there???!!!?"
She's right. That's exactly what he would have said.
We laughed.
