One of the last remaining "old school" casinos left on the Strip closed earlier this year.

Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon is no more, to be replaced with a modern boutique hotel and upscale casino. Like Vegas really needs another one of those.

No. Bally's is still there, directly across the street from Bellagio and right next to Paris.

MGM grand is about seven blocks further down the strip across the street from New York, New York.

It's across from the Mandalay Bay, New York New York is on the other side of the pyramid one isn't it?

Bally's used to be the MGM Grand. When MGM moved into their new digs further south, Bally's bought the old place.

I have an ashtray from the old MGM before it burned down.

I hope it wasn't all my fault.

Good point, one of the advanatage of the Barbary Coast was not walking a mile to your room.

Personal note, Vegas in this economy can be very depressing.

When I went there it was for work.

Seeing people drooling at the slots in the morning and all the unfinished construction makes me want to bolt

There is nothing worse, that I have seen, than the smoking sections of some AC casinos, where they've placed a grouping of penny slots. It's so depressing to watch the old women/a smattering of men chain smoking, some toting around oxygen, while they play the machines.

It feels like a waiting room for death.
