Last Person to Win?

It's not too bad if they say, "Pretty please?"
One of my friends spent some time as the academy sergeant major at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. At the time he was Warrant Officer Class One and was, therefore, technically outranked by even the most junior trainee officer. He could, however, issue any instruction that he thought appropriate – as long as he addressed the recipient as Sir. :)

Reminds me of a thing ascribed to Wellington.
"I remain, Sir, Your obedient servant
(which you damn well I'm not) "

I've been editing for another author the last few weeks, something I don't often do anymore. But it keeps me busy. And that's a good thing.

Good to hear. I do a bot here and there. Gives me a chance to read something different and also help out newbies.

I used to work with newbies a lot. Many couldn't understand the importance of writing basics. Several realized they didn't want to learn how to make their stories read well. After a while, I stopped editing completely. What I'm doing now is for someone who has been absent from the site for many years and returned.

But new works of your own - please ??

Mostly I just give their story a lock and a polish, enough to get it out the door and posted. I tend to use comments to identify issues so they know where to concentrate on improving. If they choose to accept my suggestions, great. But, it's very rare I edit for the same writer twice, so I don't know if they carry my suggestions to their next work.

- anyway, 4900 or so to the next jackpot.😊

I use the track changes in Word. I can add a comment, then just refer back to (#whatever) with each repetitive error.

There were some I helped who, after seeing what they needed to fix, decided writing wasn't something they wanted to spend time on.

Ah, yes, Lynn. I fear that I too may have dissuaded as many as I have encouraged. :)

I hope it is well grounded. Otherwise things could get shocking.
