Laptop problems *cries*

Yeah, that's probably a good thing. It certainly won't hurt. Just in case, can that wooden tray double as a paddle, if you don't? :D

Yes, I will always do what I'm supposed to.

Oh No! I hope it is not serious and can be fixed quickly. We can't get along here without you. :(

Thanks, Miss Rebecca and Raven,

It seems that it is very serious. My tech guy has given up on the thing that was my baby, my wings, my privacy.

However a "more reliable" notebook computer has been ordered. It won't get here for at least two weeks though.

You know, if it's the hard drive, that's eaiser and cheaper to replace than the whole notebook. But, that's your choice. Or, if it's the motherboard, that's cheaper, too. Again, it's up to you, what you do.

If you don't have aa backup method for data on this notebook that you want transferred to the new one, you can get an external hard drive or CD and DVD recorders to make a copy of your data.

The hard drive could be used as a backup, even with your new notebook, and the CD or DVD burners could, too. All you need is an open USB port and you're ready to go. I don't know what the burners cost, but a 250 gig external hard drive is about $100. That's pretty cheap for knowing your data is secure.

I don't like notebooks, myself. They are just too thin, and vulnerable. Sure, thay are great, if you want something that can go with you whereever you go, but you have to be sure you take care of it...don't bang it against anything while it's turned on, don't pick it up with one hand so the body gets twisted. The insides are all connected to the body and twisting like that can cause problems, down the road. Always pick them up with both hands, and make sure you don't swist it.

Purchase a good sturdy carrying case for taking it places and always keep it in that case, when not using it. Some can overheat very easily, so don't put them on anything other than a hard flat surface, so air can get to the inside. Sitting in bed with it resting on a blanket is not a good thing to do. Not only does it not get enough air inside, but it also draws dust and blanket fibers inside, clogging the cooling vents.

You can also get a cooling pedistal that has fans in it to help keep it cool while you are using it. That does two things for you...it helps keep the unit cool and it rests on a hard flat surface.

My tech guy is my husband. He says it's likely cheaper to order a new one than to throw more money at that "piece of shit." I trust his judgement because, quite honestly, we'd have no working computers if not for his constant upgrading in knowledge and frequent work on the things.

We do have a copy up to a week ago but it doesn't copy AOL e-mail. I send myself tons of messaged when I'm researching something, the kids also send me tons of things that have to do with what they are doing or researching for school. They can resend but anyway, a lot of that stuff will be lost.

I know that notebooks and laptops tend to have more breakdowns precisely because they run hot and people move them around so much or are rough with them. Still, I adore the mobility and privacy afforded by one. I will never be happy with only a desk top again.

I didn't have a case at first but I do now. I also have a cooling pedestal now. The notebook laptop sort of computer is also much safer for my dear kitty!

Yeah, it will be great to have my lap all full and be comfortable while I compute again. Unfortunately, I've been hella busy since I got it.

If you want to get rid of either one... I know a good home for wayward computers!

Aww, thanks.

I'd like to teach my Mom how to actually use a computer instead of just paying a fuck load of money and then giving them to us when she gets all discouraged.
