Lance Armstrong formally charged with doping: WSJ


By Sam Mamudi NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong has been charged formally with doping by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, according to a report Wednesday. The Wall Street Journal cited a 15-page letter in which the agency said blood samples collected in 2009 and 2010 were "fully consistent with blood manipulation including EPO use and/or blood transfusions." In a statement, Armstrong attacked the "discredited allegations dating back more than 16 years." The action could cost Armstrong some or all of his seven Tour de France titles, according to the Journal, which added that he's now banned from competing in triathlons as a result of the charges.
 
USADA is the quasi-government agency that oversees anti-doping in Olympic sports in the United States. It is empowered to bring charges that could lead to suspension from competition and the rescinding of awards. It does not have authority to bring criminal charges.


so why bother? Armstrong has already gotten rich off his fame....whats the point really?

But his fame, on which he continues to profit, is greatly linked to his image as a squeaky clean athlete who overcame cancer and returned to the apex of competitive cycling strictly on hard work and integrity.

It's no different than Tiger Woods as dedicated family man. If the truth belies the caricature, that is a legitimate story.

yeah I know....my money is on Lance. I say he is clean and they have no real proof..... we have been down this road before
 
Its been a tough couple weeks for ol' Lance. He was a big supporter of the additional tax on cigarettes in California which was defeated by voters, and now he's outed as a steroid-addled cheater.

He should take a vacation for a while.

Come on, anyone who dominates an endurance sport at the highest levels in the world for years HAS to be doping. Unless he's superman and in that case why couldn't he pull out a victory for the cigarette tax?

I always knew this guy was a fraud all along. So is Michael Phelps BTW.
