Maggie "Koi" Fox
23

She began to wonder how this all happened to her? Maggie was known for a few things, and being a coward was something she did not believe in. She learned how they came to be, she was taught there ways and there language. Men were dying as she seemed to be invisible, a figure all in black from head to toe. But her friend and his father who was the leader of the clan were in danger. Her eyes were closed as she heard everyone talking all at once, she had two swords one in each hand as she heard gun firing and opened up her eyes, she knew they were in great danger. Her tale began with her father, how she told him that she found a friend, but he had been disgusted it was "one of them" or "Japs" like her father said and hated the bitter words. The leader of the Yakuza and father to her best friend she lost herself that day. She looked at Akira and his father, she slipped a dagger that Akira gave her had there symbole on it. Slammed it on the desk her father was sitting at.

"We may have won father but you personally lost, they honor tradition and sacrifice. Something you know nothing about!" She yelled at him and grabbed his typewriter and smashed it over his head almost killing him. She seemed cold about everything and when she felt Akira hold her she smiled at him.

And now this?

The battle, bloody men on both sides lay at her feet, it was between two men that had guns to both her friend and his father, she grew very angry and dropped her swords. A man pointed a gun at her and walked to her, she bowed down looking up at the man and then did a move she learned from them where he twisted the mans wrist pointing the gun the other way killing the man holding the gun and the two that pointed guns at her friends. The men now dead she heared someone behind her. She grabbed her sword and held in a protective stance.

"Who are you who are they to you?" She knew who it was she tossed the sheath of the sword to Akia's feet.

"Honor, duty excuses for blood shed, took one night to bring me back, my name is Koi and i know understand the name, why i was named such.."Her Japenses well studied. She knew he spoke English they mostly did. She removed her mask and removed the robe. She was wearing all black, black jeans and a black turtle neck. The man knew who she was, everyone knew who she was and her hair had been past her butt now it had been cut short. She walked away from the man and headed towards the others, everything turned in slow motion she knew he was coming for her, she got the took of her boot and kicked the other sword and twirled around pushing him off her. The fight was dirty but she learned from the best, but with a hard kick she was thrown into a wall, she was stunned and the man he thought had her.

And he didn't, she timed it right and with both hands grabbed the mans sword in her palms. She grunted from the pain as her blood painted his sword, she just hoped someone was paying attention. She grabbed the sword and flipped right on her feet and she twirled on her foot and kicked him right through another wall. She saw the man get to his knees and he bowed before her. She didn't even Flench as she cut the mans head clean off his shoulders.

She panted softly and could not help but not rest easy, everyone looked at her she didnt know what to expect. They hadn't seen each other for six months. The rest of the men came and stood in two lines so it made an aile up to Akira and his father Taki. The men clapped in a slow manner this usually happened when a new yazuka was brought into the fold, when she got half way they all bowed. But she was a woman she didn't know what to say.

"Akira" She said looking up it was easy to tell the voice belonged to an American but the way she pronounced the name was perfect.

She was losing blood as she reached in her pockets to wrap her hands up. She was had been seen with them a few times, she stopped and bowed before the two. And slowly stood up straight and didn't know what to say to him or his father.

"I'm sorry" she said in English "I couldn't stand on the side lines I had to do something. She offered her sword to either of them. " I have made my move to protect you both because you have taught me so much and if there are consonances for my actions then so be it. But I see myself as one of you." She looked down a bit sighing softly.

Nishizumi Akira
Age: 25
Description: A young man, a little bit taller than average. Short, spiky black hair, pointy face and delicate features. He is slim and strong, his skin is a little on the darker side.
Clothing: All black; Leather jacket over T-Shirt and Jeans. The shirt is quite tight and shows off a bit of his physique.

It had not been a good day for Akira. It was not that he did not get along with his father, but they never settled anything without arguing about it first. This time, it had gotten especially heated; he had, again, made fun of his father's old-fashioned ways. "It is not right to work with the motorcycle gangs. They do not respect our ways. They sell drugs.", his father had said. So? All he cared about was that they were cheap, worked hard and were very intimidating. The protection money had never flowed more freely since his deal with them. Sure, they were young ruffians with no respect, but he was not asking his father to invite them home.

It had not been a good day for Akira. Normally, he (and especially his father) would have seen an ambush like this coming. Tonight, though, they had dropped their guard for a moment. They had argued. Again.

So moments later, they had guns to their heads. More attackers coming, probably. Why weren't they shooting? Was this an abduction? Suddenly, Maggie appeared. Fearless as always, she walked up to them. One of the men turned and pointed his gun at her. She dropped her swords and pretended to surrender - one of her favorite moves. The man grinned his last grin as he walked towards her. Moments later, he was disarmed, a few moments more and he was dead. She moved between the men, cutting them down with the precision of a Samurai of old.

His father said nothing, but Akira stepped forward and took her hands. As he helped her wrap them up, he whispered: "My Maggie! Grabbing a sword by the blade to save me... thank you. I would have been dead without you." The cuts were quite deep... better have a doctor look at them. Other than that, though, she was unharmed. He breathed a sigh of relief as he confirmed that. "Let's get you some professional attention for those cuts"

He had taught her much, it was true. But this raw killer instinct... that was all her. Few people bothered with using Kendo in combat anymore, seeing it as pure exercise, but she had taken to it with scary enthusiasm, determined to be as deadly with the sword as some were with a gun. Rescued by a foreigner, and a woman! He should be ashamed, but somehow, it was okay. His Little "Koi" was not your usual foreigner.

His father still watched without saying a word. Akira put his arm around her shoulder and the two walked towards him. Taki bowed again and expressed his thanks. So did Akira, after a glare from the old man reminded him of his manners. After a short talk, they made their way towards the office of a doctor who owed his father a few favors.

She smiled when Akira helped her, she knew the question would come so she let him take her to were they were coming. Everything went through her head the events of that evening when they got to there doctor she sat on the table and watched the doctor stitch her palms up. Took a good hour and a half but she looked at her friend and just smiled once the stitches were in and hands rewrapped she sighed softly. She stood up and looked outside the window. Closing her eyes as memories she made with him flooded her mind, she opened up her eyes and crossed her arms her side against the wall and looked back at Akira. She knew they were still in great danger the story of her life started now and she heard the storm start outside she always loved the rain it was incredible. She removed a dagger from her boot and with all her strength slammed it on the window ledge. She removed her hand from the dagger and it stood straight up. On it was a very old insignia. It belonged to the family that they had been fighting for over 20 years. It had been a hard few months on her, the sacrifice she had to make. She knew he trusted her and she trusted him, but now it was time to explain.

"Akira you and your whole family is in grave danger, and I've known it for a year. Which is why I took off. I first learned about what's really happening from my father, the one I almost killed for your father, but you kept me back from killing him. He actually grew to respect me because of what I did to him. The motorcycle gang that you tried to get your father to stay away from just a small piece of the puzzle, the family that you guys have been going against for 20 years hired them, there purpose was to see your strength to see how many of you there really were. So I did something that I thought I would ever do, I lie to you I told you I was going back to state because I was afraid that you and your father would tell me not to do it and then you know me me I wouldn't do it. Because I respect you and your ways and how you work. But I got help from a friend one of your dancers at a club she was a big help she did the impossible. How she could turn a white girl from America into a geshia. I managed to get a job as one they never knew who I was. I learned what I could from them, a lot of the men had loose lips when they were drunk. It was three days ago a man named Koba came in saying they were going to attack."

She sighed softly.

" I think I may have known why you and your father always called me Koi I know of your fables especially the one with the Koi fish who can swim up a waterfall becomes a dragon. I took strength in that tale and my nickname. Ive always been able to learn just by watching so I did. The whole time I've seen you fight and shoot and I learned off your other brothers, the man I killed was a top lieutenant of your enemy. It was why I made an example out of him anybody who fucks with my family will die. They will attack again but this time I will be by your side." She pushed herself off the wall and walked to the door but stopped and her head hung low.

"There is one other thing you should know you once told me as a Yakuza your not suppose to love to be involved with someone but I am in love with you that is part of the reason I choose the life of a Yakuza I may never truly belong as one because I'm a woman, but I will fight as hard as any initiate. I've wanted to tell you for a long time Akira your father may see me as a daughter he never had but I know he would want you with a nice Japanese girl. A storm is coming and we are both in the middle of it. Being under cover and being away from you for so long made that feeling even stronger." She felt stupid for admitting it after all this time but it needed to be said.

To his surprise Akira was not very surprised. But to hear her speak it so openly was something else...

"To be honest, I felt it before you said it. It was all there. And now you dared to say what I had been afraid to ask."

A Long pause. What were his feelings for her, anyway? More than friendship, that was for sure. After what they had been through, it had to be more than friendship. It was more than the camaraderie of warriors, even. And she was very attractive... was it love? What else could it be?

"I love you too. My father will never allow it, of course. I would be surprised if he wasn't planning my marriage to at least three different women by now. It's a very political thing, marriage, among the old families. But I feel like I can love only you, no matter what he is planning."

The Koi could turn into a dragon, yes. But she could never turn into someone who was acceptable to his family. It would remain a secret between the two of them, he knew.

He took her hand. "We can never marry, you know that. We can not even tell anyone. Unless...some miracle happens. But I promise to be true to you from now on. I will always and only love you, no matter what I have to do to preserve my family's honor. "

He smiled a little at the thought of having a secret date like some kind of schoolboy, then added: "Meet me tomorrow at 10 pm at the fountain in the park. It would be a nice place for our first kiss, don't you think?"

He sighed. They had to go now. His father was waiting, and the doctor wanted to close his office. His gaze lingered on her. She was death personified, even when she was in love. Fire was in her eyes; a gentle glow now, but he knew how quickly it could turn into dragon's breath. Maggie. A blade that swirled through the night, dealing death. And a girl. His girl.

The doctor had done a good job of stitching her up. No scars would remind her of the time she had grabbed a naked blade to save him, but he would. Always. When the bandages came off, only this memory would remain.

"Let's go now. My father will get suspicious if we stay here for too long. And we do not want that, do we? Oh, and", he added with a grin, "this time let me fight off the ambush, right? It would be good for my manly pride. Besides, you need some time to heal."

He made sure the pistol in his pocket was in working order and loaded. Then he stepped out into the night, heart pounding. All he could think of was their date. It was like he was back at school. Only this time it really was his one true love he was meeting.

Life had always been complicated for them but she loved the memories they had, it was amazing how much one person could make you feel the way he made her. And she never knew she could love someone like this. She always belived in soul mates. She knew all to well something his father only accepted so much for she was a Gaijin "outsider" and would do as she was told or asked, she knew life with him would be complicated and she didn't want him to be tossed out. If it was between her and his families honor, she would make him pick honor one way or another. She could see the doctor wanted them out and nodded to Akira when he made the comment that he made and nodded to him. She made sure the doctor did not see what she is about to do she placed her hand on his cheek and looked into his eyes she knew not what was going to happen to them it was hard to put such feelings into words but she did her best. Her heart was racing in her throat, everything seemed to stop around them. Her heart was so loud she could hear it in her ears. She smiled happily at him.

"Akira you have done so much for me all these years, your family has always seen me as a Gaijin but you have never treated me like an outsider, I wish we could get married and have children, but I know that will never happen, your father tolerates only so much. But keep hold of tradition the old ways are dying but its something worth holding onto as is your family. My father has been dead to me for two years now. You are the only family I have only family I need. I will stand by your side happily and faithfully Akira." She put her hand down and smiled at him. She knew there would be no more fighting at least for now. She followed behind him and felt the cool night air on her skin. But once out she placed her hand on his gun pushing it down and put her finger up to her lips showing him to be silent for a moment. She looked around seeing nothing and no one. She put two fingers to her lips and whistled, she did it in a particular way were it sounded like a birds call. After a few seconds of silence her eyes scanning the area.

It happened..

Whistles broke the silence and a smile could be seen on her face, if you really listened closely you could hear that the sounds came from four people and she motioned for them to return to his father. She sighed softly and as they walked she spoke because there was something she forgot to tell him. "We are okay to go Akira, I've made arrangements to have look outs. Remember when I asked you for the ten thousand yen before I left? I took that money and gave it two four kids, they are our eyes and ears now. All I ask is that you trust me, probably hard to stack much on faith like that when your a Yakuza but I'm sure it will work. I'd suggest going home and having a good night sleep, I don't live far from here can meet you tomorrow night? I don't want to leave you now but there is only so much your father will tolerate I just hope he isn't upset that a Gaijin woman helped your family." She said in a calm manner.

His father? His father was supposed to be upset? He was upset! As if he needed protection! And with his money, too! His eyes narrowed, and when he spoke again, his voice had lost all softness.

"Thank you", he said through clenched teeth, "we will meet tomorrow night."

Without a further word, he left. As soon as she was out of earshot, he turned towards the young punks she had hired and said: "You must be tired. Thank you for your protection. You can go home now." It sounded polite, but it was clearly an order.

So much had happened in one night! The ambush, the love confession, and now this. Had he met one woman or three? The warrior, the lover, the insolent little... (he stopped himself from thinking something very impolite)? No, it was all her. Did he love all of it? Even the part who thought she had to hire some kids because he could not take care of himself? No, he hated that part. It had to die, then he could love the rest. But how could he kill even one tiny bit of her? He had to love all of it! But could he?

So beautiful, so deadly... and sometimes so strange and inconsiderate. His father was right. This would never have happened with a Japanese woman. They would not even have thought of doing something like this to him. Ha! She might as well have taken one of her damn swords directly to his balls!

If the gangsters from before had returned, they could have probably collected his head without him even noticing. He was dimly aware he was returning home, greeting his father and going to sleep. He was now in bed, alone with his thoughts and feelings.

Strange, confused images appeared before him. Maggie, slicing off limbs with so much ease it looked almost like she was playing. Maggie, softly whispering to him about love. Almost without noticing, he slipped into a dream. He was standing next to a waterfall, but it was no fish that was trying to swim up it. It was her. Fascinated, he watched her naked body as it floated up the waterfall, more flying than swimming. But then, he noticed he had a sword. She was now at the top of the waterfall, turning into a dragon. He saw himself draw the weapon and float towards her.

He woke up.

She knew how to read him and knew he was angry the kids were not what he thought they were. It was just for the night she didn't realize just how much she over stepped, she didn't sleep that night she stayed out and watched the sun come up and went home to take a shower. She was in a Dress that Akira bought her, her hair in a braid and went to the spot were they were to meet. She had on simple black shoes, she looked off seeing everything that she could see, sighing softly she looked down and knew he was going to express his anger sooner or later. She was sitting on a stone bench and knew all to well she had pissed off certain people that she shouldn't have. But the question now was, what was she willing to do to help him, but she had to just deal with what ever was going on. Her heart beating quickly. She felt like she had a target on her back and maybe it was deserved, she looked at her hands.

Seeing the wounds on her hands she knew all to well she should have just stopped everything she was doing. It would be easy to see she had not slept, she was more worried about Akira. But not for his safety, his anger. She pretty much took everything from him that made him, him. She headed someone behind her, she didn't have the energy to fight she just wanted a quick end if she was a target. Inside her everything stopped. She was tired of running, tired of hiding. She knew all to well what would happen if he deemed it unforgivable, now was the time to know what he had in mind. Her cheeks were red stained with tears. And her chest heavy with her action that made everything clear, she looked up at the sky allowing the tears to fall. She his nothing anymore especially from the man she loved. She didn't know what was going to happen.

"Do you want me too leave Akira? Do you want me to go back to America, or you can end it." She said unable to look at him she she had the knife with his families crest. She sat it down were he would sit and looked at the cherry bloosum tree

A night of sleeping over it had done wonders to clear his head of anger. She had treated him like a helpless child, yes, but she had meant well. She had not wanted to lose him.

"No", he simply answered in a very soft voice as he looked into her eyes. "Stay with me. Always. You did not want to lose me. You did what you thought was right. To be protected by a girl twice in an evening... it was not good for my pride. Then again, that girl was you, so..."

He gave her a shy grin - quite a rare expression to see on his face - and pulled her closer for a kiss. He closed his eyes and pulled her even closer. Soft, and warm. Underneath that, hard, strong muscles. And underneath even that, a pounding heart. Darkness. Nothing but that feeling of holding on to her, losing all sense of time and space. He slowly loosened his grip and pulled away a little. The smell of cherry blossoms reminded him that they were still in the real world, still standing under that tree. His other senses took more time to return.

"I love you. And you do not want to lose me. That is why you fear for me. But I must not fear for me. A man who is not ready to face death is not a man."

That was what they had taught him, at least. But now he had her... he could face death... at least he hoped so. But now that he had her, dying meant leaving her behind.

She looked at him as he held her and looked into his eyes as rears fell down her cheeks and sighed sadly. "You have no idea how sorry I am, I would not let you die, after the fight with the kids. If I had known that I would win the fight I wouldn't have had look outs. If I knew what was going but happen I wouldn't have done it. I didn't know what he was going to happen, I figured out two scenarios. One I get there to late and your already dead. And 2 that I figured I was going to be killed." She said with honesty and love. So many things could have happened but thankfully none of the bad happened. She had not slept yet ands wasn't even tired. She hard hoped he would kiss her since they were so close to each other but something stopped him. She figured because of his father, there ways and even the fact he may have never loved anyone before, truly love.

She placed her hand on hide cheek and smiled a loving smile and stroked his cheek. It was an incredible feeling. "I never meant to take away or hurt your pride, if you had died I would have run myself thru with the sword you gave me. The sword from last night." She picked up the sword since it lay by her feet and looked at it. No longer painted in blood. Running Her fingers down the sheath and put it resting on her lap. "I will never use a sword or weapon of any kind unless you order me to. Being a woman who will never be accepted as a Yakuza, never again will I make you feel like a little boy, you know I hold to much respect to repeat last night" she looked back into his eyes. She had to admit to herself that she enjoyed the fight, even though she hurt a lot. To fight like me a man felt wonderful. She would be his secret lover and body guard.

He smiled and stroked her hair, touched by her promise. She understood him, and, more importantly, she honored him. All doubt that he had chosen the right path dissipated.

For a long time, he sat next to her on the stone bench, holding hands. No further words were necessary. How could he put this...experience...into words, anyway? It was beyond describing. He had loved before, had had girlfriends before. And still, this felt fresh, and different.

Eventually, he put his hand on her hip, kissed her again and whispered: "It means so much to me. You respect me. You understand me. You are right for me. I love you."

Another long pause, then his fingertips crept around, snuck inside her clothing, until he could feel warm, soft skin underneath. With a cheeky grin, he added: "And, just among us, you have a perfect body, too."

His grin broadened as he got bolder, the pressure increasing slightly. Gentle as a kitten, his fingers slid over her skin. He could feel everything. Tiny, silken hairs...her breathing softly pushing and pulling...a layer of firm muscle every time he pressed slightly harder...

She smiled at him and this moment would be in her forever, in that silence she ran so many things in her head. She began to wonder what was going to happen and knew that it would never matter. They loved each other and that was all she needed, in this world of mystery and violence everything was right in that moment. When he kissed her, held her and touched her. She felt like she was a force unlike any other that has ever been. She closed her eyes as they shared there first kiss, it made her blood boil as she held onto him. She had something very special planned for his birthday, something to show her love and honor to him. To show she was his everything, but doing it in a way only Akira would know. She wanted to get married that much was certain, but right now that would not be possible. Maybe once his father was dead, but she would work hard to keep the man alive. He was a good man in his own right. She knew that the path they were both taking was the harder road. She kept hearing her fathers words echo into her head sometimes, but she would honor him, and his clan best she could. She was the Koi fish who swam up a waterfall and became a dragon. There were two sides of her, once he stopped kissing her she felt his hands under her clothing and smiled.

"Akira. " She said softly.

"You once told me in life sometimes we fight the current, other times its important to flow up the river." She said looking out towards the cherry blossom trees that she loved very much, not as much as him of course but enough to spend time here. "It's important you understand something Akira, I love you more then anyone I have ever loved. You are my soulmate, I know the Chinese have the term Twin Flame for there one true love. But you are the reason I did everything I did, but I vow to never lie to you or keep anything from you. Love can blind you if your not careful, making stupid choices like I did tonight. The fear of losing the one you love, makes you take action." She took a breath and silently soft as she spoke the rest in Japanese.

"I am your friend, your lover, your gun and your blade. I am yours to love and to command if you ever ask me to do something I will do it. All I ever wanted was to belong, and here is where I belong. I will always be equipped to fight and equipped to truly love you, my love" She stroked his cheek and ran her fingers over his cheek, then down to his neck and chest. "I must admit your the first man I have ever loved, the only one I will ever be with" She smiled
