It's time to celebrate. Today is International Female Orgasm Day
TODAY is Día Internacional del Orgasmo Femenino, that's Spanish for International Day of the Female Orgasm. Not to be confused with International Orgasm Day, of course - that was back in July.
Nope, today is all about celebrating a woman's right to reach sexual climax. And thank God for that. Latest statistics into global sexual behaviour have revealed just one-third of women actually ever experience one.
Apparently, women have the Councillor of the Brazilian people in Esperantina, Arimateio Dantas to thank for today's celebration. Who was, by all accounts, a very thoughtful man.
The story goes that Mr Dantas wanted to compensate his wife for some "sexual debts" and so he proposed a day dedicated to the female orgasm.
The movement really kicked off, and according to International Business Times, is now one of the most popular holidays in Brazil - and elsewhere.
And why not? As popular mummy blogger Mrs Woog put it over at The Hoopla: "There's a fantastic excuse to spend the day in bed, if ever I have heard one."
That might not be as far-fetched an idea as in sounds. According to the founders of International Orgasm Day, most religions consider orgasm an act of prayer used to focus the mind on divinity while in the act of creation.
And here are some other things to tickle your fancy about this special day...
You can have a hands-free orgasm: At least according to Lady Gaga, who once told reporters she can "think" herself to climax. While Betty Dodson, a New York-based sex educator told The Huffington Post that thinking and talking about sex during foreplay could improve the overall experience.
Most women need at least 20 minutes to orgasm during sexual intercourse: Men on the other hand, are believed to need an average of seven minutes.
An orgasm can relieve pain: Firstly because having an orgasm is relaxing and distracting and secondly, because of the chemical and emotional rush you experience.
The older you are, the better the orgasm: An American study reported in The Women's Day found that 70 per cent of women between 40 and 50 achieved orgasm during sex, compared with 65 per cent of women in their 30s. Better understanding of your body and your partners, plus assumed greater trust and intimacy are believed to account for this.
