This Is The World's First Entirely 3D-Printed Gun (Photos)

Eight months ago, Cody Wilson set out to create the world’s first entirely 3D-printable handgun.

Now he has.

Early next week, Wilson, a 25-year-old University of Texas law student and founder of the non-profit group Defense Distributed, plans to release the 3D-printable CAD files for a gun he calls “the Liberator,” pictured in its initial form above.

...All sixteen pieces of the Liberator prototype were printed in ABS plastic with a Dimension SST printer from 3D printing company Stratasys, with the exception of a single nail that’s used as a firing pin. The gun is designed to fire standard handgun rounds, using interchangeable barrels for different calibers of ammunition.

Technically, Defense Distributed’s gun has one other non-printed component: the group added a six ounce chunk of steel into the body to make it detectable by metal detectors in order to comply with the Undetectable Firearms Act. In March, the group also obtained a federal firearms license, making it a legal gun manufacturer.

Pistol shot gun.
zip gun with silencer

Interesting. But more interesting is the chemputer. It can make pharmaceuticals. Of course, a machine that can make pharmaceuticals can also make illegal drugs.

And a machine that can make drugs can also make explosives and chemical weapons.

Why not? They're all just chemical substances. All you need is the machine, the software, and feedstock chemicals available to any high-school chem teacher.

I was expecting pictures of a bomber...

I need to get a 3D printer. Is there an iPrinter yet?

:D

The wholesale home manufacture of iGirls would have a revolutionary effect on male female relations, "liberating" us as it were from female influence.

Finally a girlfriend who doesn't bleed, bitch, and make fun of your tallywacker or technique...

:D :D :D

What did you think?

That's all right. We told you what to think . . . .

Now, if it could only print iPizza using tofu and protein shake mix...

;) ;)

Iprint a Hemi that weighs a few hundred pounds less, with re-ported heads and other goodies.

*drool*

I could see the iBeetle making a comeback...

Every printing would have leftover raw material.

The god ews is, you could IPrint obscure replacement parts for your project.

Hell, you could IPrint an entire un-insulted Model A.

That was an image I could have lived the rest of my life without.

ibama:

Obama, you see, is our nemesis. He is a totem, the logical manifestation of a warped media, the reification of some crazy — and arrogant — ideas about redistributive politics, the statist economy, and cultural and social life that permeated American life the last forty years. He is the president with a 1,000 faces that we have all seen at work, on TV, throughout American life, and at some point the odds determined that we had to have a rendezvous with him— perhaps a catharsis to teach us the wages of Keynesian debt, of a social policy contrary to human nature with its equality of result doctrines, of an all-powerful, all-growing unaccountable government, of the now hip ambiguity about past American protocols and history. Obama is the exaggeration of all the dubious ideas that arose since the 1960s — brought to fruition on his watch, delivered by mellifluous cadences by an untouchable persona.

In fact, a Barack Obama was long overdue. Had he not appeared out of nowhere in 2008, we would have surely had to invent him.
