Come in dear friends... welcome to my little corner of the world. :rose:

Something to drink? Pick your poison. I prefer the merlot, but maybe whiskey's your drug of choice. Fancy a little light conversation? Why not get rid of some of those layers and make yourself comfortable? Have a lounge on the daybed and relax. :)

I'm looking for a little 1920s boudoir inspiration... unfortunately I suppose it was unfashionable to take photos of your intimate space back then...

This comes close.

I've been on a retro 20's kick myself lately. Just had my hair cut to the period, and I've been dressing in a more romantic fluffy layered way.

I adore the hair! If I wasn't so chicken about it I'd go for a bob... I think it might just look too schoolgirlish on me.

Now I wonder how to find info on bondage practices of the time...

I don't know much about writing, but I think Jeux des Dames Cruelles is from that era, it's a photo book of some pretty obvious spanking stuff, mostly girl on girl.

There must have been a lot going on in Paris...

Oh yeah there was.

Paris, Weimar Berlin, Shanghai. I think the world is tame now by comparison in a lot of ways.

Japan! Oooh, ropes. How I would have loved to have been around when that was being perfected...

Oooh, pretty. I've always loved that look. Can't carry it off myself.

The 20s had their charms, but the 30s (great depression aside) were far more glamorous. The fur collars on the coats that went up higher than your head? I mean, come on. The dramatic backs of the gowns scooping down to the small of the back, all of the beading, the delicate fabric, the long silhouettes.... Mmmmm.

(threw that last one in there because it has the bonus of my fantasy boyfriend James Cagney. *Drool*)

Which undies?
Any undies!

I bet she had some lovely stuff on under that dress ;)

20's and 30's undies are actually kinda weird.

In reaction to corseting, 20's and early 30's stuff tends to be very loose and billowy. The slips you find have this weird low-hanging crotch thing in them.

Oh yes, that's delicious. All in an era.

Definitely more glam, I can't argue.

But Theda Bara, man. I mean how cool is it that some rag trader's Jewish kid could become a sex Goddess? And you had Josephine Baker grabbing Paris by its balls and busting up race from inside it's worst stereotypes - interesting shit in the mix.

I don't think hotness has looked as varied and as round-bodied since. Not necessarily MORE so anyway.

YEAH. I totally know what your talking about. Underwear went from totally restricting and beautiful looking in the teens to loose wisps of nothing in the 20s and 30s and then slowly went back to corseted and awesome during the 50s. Underwear went downhill pretty fast from the late 60s on.

Netz, ever been to Orchard Corsets on Orchard St. in the Lower East Side? I feel like you'd dig it. I've gotten some old-timey undergarments there and definitely plan on returning. Shank, if you make it to NYC, I'd suggest you add it to your list of places to visit.

Oh, also men in makeup with slicked back hair and sock garters?

Can someone please bring this back kthks.

Ohhh thank you! I have not. I used to go to Frishman's but they're gone *cries* and I was looking for a replacement. I'm gonna be there early June so I may have to make a trip, we'll see if Renegade craft generates some mad money for me or if I just have to hand it all to the Feds and rent and bills.

I agree about undies. Although there's still some pretty nylon things from the seventies floating around, and I like slips, but cat on a hot tin roof slips, not potato chip bag 20's ones.

Though the black rolled stocking thing kind of interests me with the sensible shoes.

True about 20s underwear. I'm sure there were corsets floating around a few boudoirs in Paris though... more than the japanese must have liked restriction.

I love the look of the underwear of that time period, but I prefer the FEEL of todays underwear. Give me a comfy set of cotton panties (and when I get skinny, bra) and I'm a happy camper.
