Yes, Cats do get colds. My cat has gotten colds before--she sneezes repeatedly, and eventually curls up looking miserable, as if she just doesn't feel well. Right now, outside of sneezing, she's still doing the 5 "p's" of a healthy cat:

poop
piss
play
purr
preen

The poop & piss meaning she's eating and drinking as well as digesting. But I suspect that pretty soon the purr and play will vanish along with any desire to eat--if the cold progresses.

She's gotten past them before, usually within 24 hours, but watching her be sick is so sad! I wonder if I feeding her chicken broth would help?

Well, cats eat what they can smell. Stuffy noses means she can't smell food. Using a strongly ordorous can food might help, as will heating it just a little. You can sprinkle garlic powder on it, too (lots of cats LOVE garlic and it doesn't hurt them). Chicek broth can't hurt, of course, as long as you watch the salt. Add a little garlic powder to it, too, and keep the temperature moderate. It's nutrients and liquid so it's all good. Of course, you might spoil your critter forever. Try maybe mixing some with dry food.

One trick I've used on my brood is to dab a little Vicks Vap-o-rub on top of their heads or chests when they get sniffles. The vet says it can't hurt and it does seem to ease stuffy heads. Don't use too much, of course. Most of my cats don't mind it, although a couple get fussy about it because it's gooey.

Lots of cats love mint, too, so a little mint oil can help. (one of my cat insists on getting in my face after I brush my teeth before bed. He LOOOOOOVES the mint).

Sometimes my cats will get "the snits" and will just spend a day somewhere warm -- if the weather is cool, I'll put out a heating pad or a thick folded blanket in a sunny spot.

!! I can't even find the right emoticon for my response to this. Vap-o-rub on kiddy! I wonder if my cat would put up with it....

Thanks for the recommendation on garlic powder, fresh food, etc. I'll see if I have some low sodium broth for her.

Hehheh! I know a lot of people just HATE the stuff. I've always thought it was a clever way to sneak aromatherapy into the mainstream. That's pretty much what it is. That, and I use it for my constant sinus problems. Cheaper and easier on me than pills!

I know too many people who are cat "experts". They tell me everything :) and my clowder requires creativity, so I listen and read a lot. Hope your kitty feels all better very soon!

Hugs and kisses for your sick kitty.

I have nothing to add to mal's excellent advice. And I'm thinking about trying the garlic with my cats. :rose:

But do you have a nice lovely sunny place in your home where your kitty can snooze away the afternoon? That seems to make all our kitties so very happy.

:catroar:
