Kitty abortion... Am I wrong to take Maggie to be spayed and have her litter killed?

I found this prego kitty at my old work, and I brought her home. She's been tested and is healthy as can be, but she is pregnant, and I I just can't seem to justify bringing up to four more cats into the world. My vet will do it at cost, and I am really considering it. She is so young, under a year, and she is a really great pet, and even though dave says I can't keep her, I am going to. Since she has been tested she lives in the main part of the house with the other pets and she is fitting in very well. Earl Grey has sort of taken to her, and to me, that is odd, because he is the dominant male cat and only likes to cuddle with Claudius. He just seems to want to cuddle near her, and all. If he fall in love with her, I can't let her go. Dave will have to go fuck himself. ;)

Anyway, back to the point. She is prego and I can have the unborn kitten's lives terminated and her spayed in one very inexpensive shot. I really think I would have a hard time getting rid of kittens and there are already so many out there that need homes.

Either way, I am having it done, but am I sick? Is this wrong?

If she is under a year, going full term with the pregnancy will be very trying for her little body, Starfish.

And also, think of it this way, when she delivers, you will now be responsible for 4 more animals that will need to be spayed/neutered. Or at least finding homes that will be willing to do that.

It's a tough decision for you, and I don't envy you.

As the cat is technicallyu still a kitten it might be in her best interests to have the kittens aborted - she may have problems with her preganancy, birth and even caring for them.

I've seen what early pregnancies do to the bowel and bladder structure to kitties. It can be very bad. I already have 6 cats. Just keeping her is an issue, but she is a doll baby and she will have Dave loving her so fast.

It is the right thing to do, but it is sort of sad to me in a weird way. I guess I just don't like killing anything, ever. :(

what a rotten position to be in... but you're right you have to consider the terrible state of homeless pets here in the US, and the health of your cat. it would be hard but i would get the abortion and spaying. good luck

what a terrible predicament you are in starfish.
me personally i would go ahead with the termination
saving one kitten now and giving it a good quality of life
is better than losing all five at the birth and then there is
the problem of either trying to care for four extra
mouths to feed or the heartbreak when they go to other homes
i know what its like ive been there myself.
at the end of the day whichever decision you make will be the
right one for you . best of luck

Im going to have a little cry for you over this one. My SO and I love cats and would do what is best for them.

OK We would never turn a lost animal away so keep the cat no matter what since it is already fitting in so well.

The litter this is so sad but you really have no alternative but to terminate the litter. If you werehere it would be much easier. The cat Haven would take the kittens and have them neutered. Their placements for kittens is close to 100%. The thing is that every time we go there we end up with another cat.

Last time we went there a Cat had a sign on the cage that said Ive been here for three months wont some one please take me home . :(

Well we did and he is just the cutest thing you would ever want to own. Just because he was a year old no one wanted him.

People who dump animals need to have really bad things done back to them. If you dont want anaimal then take it to the RSPCA or what ever.

Starfish what you are doing is right but it does not make it any less painful. Be brave !!

Mike
