I have Kindle for PC on my laptop with Windows 7. I went to 'New Features and Future Improvements' and downloaded the latest update that mentions doing so will add page numbers.

Needless to say, it did not work. There are books that do not have page numbers. If a book does, that can be found under 'Product Info'. It would state 'Page Numbers Source ISBN".

There is a book with page numbers on litfan's IPAD. I have the same book without page numbers. litfan's laptop does not have page numbers. He deleted Kindle for PC on his laptop and reinstalled it to no avail. At least that spared me the trouble of trial and error.

Anyone else have this problem and does anyone know how to resolve this? Thank you.

Have you emailed or talked to Amazon about it? Their customer service is really nice and gets back to you quickly. I have a Kindle, and love it, but never bother much about page numbers vs. locations. Whatever's there is there. I'm a default kind of person. It also may have to do with when the book was made; older ones may not have the page info and I don't know if can change it so they do.

As I wrote in the OP, the books that SHOULD have page numbers, do not... and one of the books on litfan's IPad has page numbers.

I asked on the Amazon Customer Service Forum with no reply. So I called them.

The only thing they can come up with is that it is a glitch. I also downloaded the Cloud and funny enough, I get page numbers on my Kindle for PC now and with the same book they do not come up on Cloud. Weird. They didn't have an answer for that either.

It's never easy, is it? I could ask other things, like is it latest generation Kindle, but I suppose it doesn't matter. But I have to say all that working/not working is pretty confusing.

heh, I know, if everything was smooth!

They mentioned they never heard of this problem. It is confusing and just something I have to get over.

Thank you for giving this thought. You're sweet!

You're welcome. I got a Kindle about a year ago and love it, but have had it replaced twice. The first time, it was randomly rebooting. Ultimately, it turned out to be a problem with the case I had, but before we knew that, I had to return the Kindle and get another and then the problem repeated. So it was the case. A few months later that second Kindle simply wouldn't work; customer service was great, they walked me through various settings and finally it was like -- no, just give me a new one. No problems with that one. :)

But I love it!

That would have drove me nuts. I am glad the problem was figured out and resolved. Leaving it a mystery would have drove me crazy.

I am thinking of getting one for a friend and I do not want to get it with ads!

Mine's only about 9 months old. I love mine, too. I particularly like to download Lit. stories as text files and put them on my Kindle so that I can read them wherever we (Kindle and I) happen to be. So far there've been no problems.

But slave's problem wasn't with a Kindle. It was with Kindle for PC, which is software that makes it possible to read Kindle formatted material on a Windoze box.

Oh, you're right. Well isn't it just like me to overlook something like that. Sigh. I have Kindle for PC as well but never use it.

I often put my own stuff on my Kindle as it's in progress. My hub can read it and make notes -- pretty handy.

Any resolution to this?

Any resolution to this?

It ended up sorting itself out. I gather it had something to do with Amazon, they just started doing page numbers and it was probably a glitch that needed smoothing out.

Now as for Kindle for PC, I have other issues. One is where it insists on sorting books by title no matter how I tell it to sort. At least it stopped doing one annoying thing. Every time I downloaded a book and went into Kindle, whether immediately or later, the book appeared then disappeared. I had to close Kindle and reopen to see the book. Oy!
