Killing it

Welcome to the AH. :)

The technical term for these people is 'troll'. They didn't even read your story. They just went to the vote and voted as low as they could go.

Now they're probably reading this thread and chortling, "See? I'm not insignificant. I made this person unhappy."

It happens to all of us. You'll get used to it.

Sometime in the future Lit will make a 'sweep' of votes it considers invalid. This will probably get rid of the troll vote. Probably.

G K - you might enjoy my Troll story, which can be found via the "short list" link in my sig line. There have been many threads on trolls posted here. The "Search" function will bring them up.

Hi

My second chapter had received 16 votes. All of them 4 and 5's.
Some asshole comes along and gives it a 25%.
Out of 42 votes for my my first chapter I never received less than a
3.
Why would somebody do this?

^This!

Hi, Kid, and welcome to Literotica and the AH. Trolls, unfortunately, are a fact of life here. To be completely honest, they do sometimes read enough of a story to know they dislike it. Sometimes that may be as little as the category. Here is a funny story I wrote a while ago on the fate of such a creature.

Alternatively, someone may have read it, and didn't like it. It isn't always a troll that gives a story a low vote. After all, a vote of "one" is as valid as a vote of "five."

Exactly. There is the option to vote a 'one'.

Every time someone complains, the trolls get blamed, when a story could just suck according to that reader.

I think Stephen King has permanent impressions of my shoe print on his ass. Some of his stuff is sublime, and some of it sux.

My GF and I debate reviews & scoring all the time. She says the less you know about writing, the more you enjoy reading. Writing ruins the pleasure of reading. I agree.

But, seriously, how realistic is it to expect everyone to swoon over what you write? Sometimes I dont like what I write, and when it gets published I wonder WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!

Thanks for the replies.

It doesn't bother me so much anymore. It's just had others rated it
just as badly, I could more see the point.

I just really get the impression that it's somebody very frustrated
anyway.
Somebody who is having a bad day, probably everyday.

Like someone already said they may have read the whole thing and gave an honest score instead of backclicking when they'd had enough, like I did.

GAUCHE But you do that with the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and Ten Commandments, too.

I thought I would add that another motivation for trolls :mad:is some trivial detail they take offense at, such as:
