Is there a way to unstick the keys on a keyboard? All of a sudden I'm having to slam every key to get them to work. The space bar is the worst. My fingers hurt. I tried using a can of air, but I can't discern a difference in the performance. Any other ideas, or am I heading to Best Buy tomorrow?

Pop off all the keys and wipe them all down with dry q-tips and vacuum the and qtip the keyless board.

Condensation from sweat causes the dust and hair to form like a mud concrete sort of stuff causing them to stick that normal blowing just won't do

What kind of keyboard is it?

If it is an older model you can soak it in warm water and unstick the keys. I would only use that as a last resort though. First pry the keys out of there slots and try and pull all the junk out with a toothpick or a q-tip with a little warm water.

Take a screwdriver and lever them off and try the keys without the covers on them.

Then you can try the compressed air and look for anything obstructing them.

Then put the keys back on, if they don't work then, I'd suggest using it w/o the covers! :)

Sticky keyboard???

Mischka!!! My whole image of you is blown.. to think.. YOU have a sticky keyboard??

And here I thought you were a good girl...you little cyber slut, you!:D

anyway.. good ideas above.. All I can add is use a little rubbing alcohol on the qtips..

and try to use clean hands when typing from now on.. ;)

Consign it to the trash can and get a new one..they are so cheap its not worth the hassle of fixing them.....chuck it out.

I agree with Draco here. Even the wave keyboards (which might be helpfull for your wrists, but are a bitch to get used to), are around 20 dollars at CompUSA.

Here are some signs it's time for a new keyboard:

You were forced to learn touch typing because all the letters have worn off of the keys.

You need to wear something on your hands to get traction on the super smooth keys of your board.

Your friend uses the keyboard and you take two minutes to update them on what keys work, what keys don't and which keys it takes applying a tap with a hammer to bring forth a result from.

You keep a mini pry bar handy to unstick keys.

You take a tooth pick, run it around the keys, and come up with something a geologist would be interested in studying the layers of.

The lights for Number, Caps, and Scroll lock have changed color since you've gotten the keyboard due to dust, grime, or age.

You can't remember what color the aforementioned lights were when you got your current keyboard.

You've had to resort to using Numbers and symbols for Letters, as in d00d speak, because of a loss of function. (Just remember the | symbol is handy for L's i's and creating other letters.)

A keystroke may result in a reaction of a spark, a puff of dust, or the keyboard collapsing.

I got all thekeys to work except the space bar, which youmay have noticed.

I popped off all the other keys and found enough cathair to make a toupee.

I can't get the space bar off. I may opt for a new one yet...

hehe... sounds like mine from a few months ago. It is a laptop though, a little harder to just replace the keyboard. I got the can of air and blew the cat hair to the edge of the keys where I picked it out with an eyebrow tweezer. Fun! But it worked.

You have to type by touch with my keyboard because yes, some of the letters are completely worn off. Doesn't bother me, but others who tried to type on it over the holidays had a difficult time.

I have a strap on and spurs.. can I be your cowboy??:D :p

Its difficult for me to put the images of riding Mischka out of my mind, I know of what I shall dream.

Dont spend too much time and frustration with it, as much as I abhor disposable culture, new keyboards are not that expensive and pick up an ergonomically superior one.

I finally got a new keyboard, and all of the keys actually work! I'm practically giddy over it - I was pressing the space bar for several lines in Word. :D

I haven't been in the keyboard market for a while. When did they start putting warning labels on them? And what's with the extra row of internet buttons on the top? Took me forever to find an old fashioned keyboard with just the regular keys.

OK, more space bar pressing!! Woohoo! [ ]<--- that's the space bar.
