Keeping spammers out?

In the past two weeks, I’ve had two spammers comment on my stories. I deleted both comments as soon as I saw them, but it’s still annoying to both me and my readers. Any way to keep this from happening?

I thought anonymous users needed to do a captchas before they could comment. I guess these must’ve slipped through somehow?

Both comments were basically “Hi, my name is <Insert Name Here>. I’m a horny girl, and I’m looking for a man who can satisfy me! Contact me at <Insert Link Here>.” Ironically, all my stories are gay male, so this “horny girl” is probably barking up the wrong tree! Even so, I did have a reader say he clicked on the link & it was a scam (of course).

Any recommendations?

Use the report function in the comment to say it is spam and it will be removed wholesale across the site, along with the sender and IP. If you just delete it, you are only getting rid of the one copy. The idea is to yank the whole pant out by the roots. :)

Report does work. There's always more to replace our cute little Gremlin spammers.

For the future, then?

I've had a similar issue and it really is irritating.
So is it better to not delete them at my end, but rather use the report function, then sit back and wait?

Over the last week the issue seems a little better, but knowing how best to proceed would help me relax. :)
