‘This must be exposed’: Katie Porter ‘pulls back the curtain’ on Mitch McConnell’s stimulus sabotage

“When I came to Congress, I knew I had a responsibility to pull back the curtain for the American people and expose corruption in real time. So, I’m filling you in on Senator McConnell’s attempts over the last 8 days to tank a *bipartisan* COVID relief bill,” Porter said.

She added, “You may have heard that Democrats and Republicans have agreed upon spending $900 billion to fund another round of small business loans, support hospitals and essential workers, and help the 10 million people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own.”

She also revealed everyone who has been part of the negotiations has been in agreement with moving forward with the next package. However, McConnell appears to be the only lawmaker who refuses to bring the vote to the floor.

Porter continued, “Everyone at the negotiating table—including Senate Rs—has agreed to a compromise. Except one. Mitch McConnell is refusing to bring it to the floor unless it wipes away all COVID-related lawsuits filed that “allege injury or death” due to corporate negligence.”

“These lawsuits represent the worst of the worst examples of disregard for human life—cases filed on behalf of nursing home patients and grocery store workers who died because the company in charge of keeping them safe prioritized cutting costs over protecting them.”

That's why they call him the Grime Reaper, Katie.:)

How many of those nursing home workers and grocery clerks are in Kentucky and voted to keep Mitch their Senator?

COVID-19 has devastated Kentucky’s nursing homes.

In May, the New York Times reported that 57 percent of Kentucky’s COVID-19 fatalities had occurred among nursing home residents and staff, making the Commonwealth one of only 14 states where nursing home deaths were 50 percent or more of coronavirus losses.

how fucked is this system that one man can stand in the way of hundreds of congresspeople in agreement to help americans in desperate need?

who is he protecting? who's promised what or given him backhanders to make sure their negligence can't be prosecuted?

A lot of blue collar workers vote against their own interests and don't even realize it. And then when the SHTF they blame democraps because they are told to. It's no wonder that politicians call the electorate, "The Great Unwashed."

Unfortunately that goes right down to the state level. We've had a bill sponsored by several legislators and submitted to the Legislature twice to authorize lane sharing. For those who don't know what that is: a motorcycle will be authorized to ride between lanes under certain conditions, IE; when traffic is moving at 35 mph or less, the bike can not go more then 10 mph faster than the surrounding vehicles. There are two studies from California which has shown it is safer for a motorcycle rider to lane share in such circumstances then it is to stay in traffic.

It's been submitted twice but never voted on. Why? Because the Traffic safety committee leader will not allow it to be voted on because she disagrees with it. One person is holding up the entire process. I could see if it went to a vote and got voted down, but it never even made it out of committee, was never debated or had any evidence one way or the other presented. It's sheer utter bullshit when one person can waylay something that should be considered by the entire assembly. Mitch does the same thing. Over the last 3+ years, how many bills has he tabled and not allowed to come to the floor? If the majority doesn't want it to pass when it comes to a vote, then so be it but it should AT LEAST be on the floor for debate so we as the voters can hear evidence and opinions form both sides.

Edited to add: Katie is a smart awesome lady. She uses facts, figures and logic to show the hypocrisy of those she questions.

^^ I would block that too. Bikes can stay in the lane or stay the hell off the road entirely.

exactly

a vote is one thing, a democratic thing... this one person overriding all? not in the least!

Have you no respect for Democracy?

One person deciding for all, no debate, no studies, just one person's opinion........how quaint.

This is what I'm talking about, blowing off your mouth without ever considering the facts. Or is it you get all butt hurt because a bike get's past you? There are a lot of people that way, spoiled ass kids that can't take someone getting ahead of them. They are also the reason a bike is more prone to getting hit by a car if it stays in traffic during such a jam up. They figure it's their right to play with their phones instead of paying attention to their driving. That's ok if you hit another car, maybe a bent fender or crushed bumper, but when one of those assholes hit a bike it ALWAYS ends with major injury to the biker and the car driver walks away without a scratch. Yea, me thinks you need to quit looking at the inside of your colon and look at the facts.

Hey, if it was up to me, there wouldn't be any motorcycles on public roads at all.
