Karl Rove Resigning?

I don't believe for an instant that he'll stop being Bush's "chief strategist and advisor." He'll just do it off the public payroll and even further outside the reach of the law.

I'd rather have him employed.

yep, and accountable, whatever that actually means these days.

I get the distinct feeling Rove is heading for Dubai soon. No extradition treaty there. And they know how to treat the rich and powerful.

hmmm, is he resigning to save himself or bush? *stomps all over her own political thoughts and runs like hell out of the thread*

You've probably hit the nail on the head. The timing is right for Rove to start in on the next election. After the straw poll, things should start thinning out now.

looks like it's for real. hooray.

remember the haldeman resignation, anyone. .... getting close.

I have a couple of comments about Rove's resignation.

First, he will be replaced by some other Bush Brown Noser. I question if Rove is resigning or being forced out. But, like all high level officials, he will still have an office in the White House while he "Cleans up his office" just like Rummy did. I suspect he will take until sometime around January 20, 2009 to finish up. He will not be off the payroll until he closes his office, by the way.

Second, this action takes Rove out of the gunsites of the Senate and Congressional investigating committees even though it's really business as usual. The question then is: Can Bush still declare "Executive Privilage" for Rove even though he is officially no longer a top White House Official? Probably, he can for anything that occured prior to the end of August.

Rove has already been ignored a Senate Subpoena and what happens there is anyone's guess.

This is most likely a bad move on the part of the Bush Administration. With Rove out of the way, Dick Chaney will now be the main quary of the hunters in Congress. Love it :D

I have a button: "Chaos, panic, disorder...my work here is done." Why do I feel this is so well suited to Rove's resignation

I have a keychain that says that. :D

Sweetsubsarahh, you're right about the stake

There's no way that asshole is human. Of course, I have a hard time believing you could drive anything through his heart. You've got to have one first. I'll bet he doesn't have any mirrors in his office either.

I don't think anybody in the administration cares.

They're done. They've made their money and their mark on history.

So they have no reason to care.

My gut feeling tells me that Rove is looking after his own ass on this matter. I don't think that he'll be advising Bush on anything anymore and might, in fact, work to distance himself from the administration.

I don't like the man on a moral or ethical level, but I can respect him for being a smart son of a bitch. And I make it a point to never underestimate a smart son of a bitch. Just simple survival tactics.

I can't guess as to what his plans are for the future and the upcoming election, although I don't see him joining any of the upcoming teams. As much of an asset as his political mind might be to a campaign, his reputation will precede him and I can only seeing it as a damning mark against whomever he would align himself with.
