Kamala Harris Wants a Reparations Commission Like California's, Which Called To Decriminalize Public Urination

Reparations task force would target laws that 'disproportionately and negatively affect African-Americans'

Joseph Simonson
August 5, 2024
The reparations bill supported by Vice President Kamala Harris would set up an independent commission similar to the one in California that called for sweeping changes to the criminal code in addition to monetary payouts to black Americans.

The Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act, which was reintroduced in April 2019 and cosponsored by then-senator Harris, would create a 13-member commission to "study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans." The commission would then offer their recommendations for "remedies" to Congress.

Current laws that "continue to disproportionately and negatively affect African-Americans as a group, and those that perpetuate the lingering effects, materially and psycho-social," could be on the chopping block as well, the bill reads. That provision is left vague. Specifics, the bill states, would be hashed out by individuals from "civil society and reparations organizations that have historically championed the cause of reparatory justice."

Although the bill does not specify which federal laws could be slashed, a reparations task force in California may offer some clues. That task force concluded last year that longtime black residents were entitled to $1.2 million each, as well as recommended sweeping changes to the criminal code.

Yes, she is a pandering racist Marxist.

Fairly easy - she gained enthusiasm from apathetic voters who either didn't have an opinion of her or had not heard much about her. Add to that those voters who jumped on board who were not on board with Biden in any real way. It's a trend that will level out and probably drop a bit

Biden dropped out. Many voters weren't happy with him and their enthusiasm for Harris was born out of that.

You and others are overreacting to the shift. It was expected.
No, she gained the support of the Democrat press after they got orders to rewrite her history.

Polling doesnt ask the press.

The polling is accurate and Harris is enjoying a boost. Those who think this is unusual or fake also don't understand how polling works.

The same boost has been observed in focus groups.

Watching either regime media or Border Czar Kamala Harris' surrogates defend her indefensible record on any number of subjects has been pretty entertaining, were it not for the fact that we're this close to having an actual Marxist run the United States for the next four years, if the continued tightening of polling is accurate.

A PAC called Future Forward has been running pro-Kamala ads during the Olympics almost non-stop, the most recent with the tagline, "The Future Begins Now." It's almost as if no one realizes that serving as Vice President in the existing White House makes this claim objectively fake news. The future doesn't begin now. At best, they can say, "The Present Continues Today." But people don't like the present situation, because in short, it sucks.

On CNN over the weekend, Maryland's third Senator, Laphonza Butler, appointed to the Senate as a replacement for the late Dianne Feinstein by California Governor Gavin Newsom, was asked to comment on the flood of flip-flops coming out of the Harris campaign in lieu of interviews and/or press conferences by the presumptive Democratic nominee. Her response sounded like the chorus of an 80's Human League song.

Other pro-Kamala ads are claiming she's the "Rule of law" candidate - except, of course, for the whole 'illegal border crossings aren't a crime, 'you don't have to pay your student loans back', 'rioting and looting should be bailed out as long as it was during a racial protest', and 'Title IX no longer means anything if that pesky Y-chromosome has been holding you back' thing.

Everyone is trying to put Kamala Humpty-Dumpty Harris back together again. I don't think it will be successful. J.D. Vance is already tearing into her like a wolf on a chicken.

Under a Kamala Harris presidency, Americans who like their health insurance would lose it — and pay for illegal aliens’ coverage.

As Democrats crowned Kamala Harris the presumptive successor to Joe Biden — an event that transpired with nary an actual vote being cast — some noted that Harris previously expressed support for banning private health coverage. When Jake Tapper asked her in January 2019 about the single-payer bill by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., that she co-sponsored, which among other things would outlaw private insurance, Harris said the following:

"Well, listen, the idea is that everyone gets access to medical care. And you don’t have to go through the process of going through an insurance company, having them give you approval, going through the paperwork — all of the delay that may require. Who of us has not had that situation, where you’ve got to wait for approval, and the doctor says, ‘Well, I don’t know if your insurance company is going to cover this?’ Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on."

Harris’ series of statements (really, flip-flops) on this issue proved one of the reasons her desultory 2020 presidential campaign cratered so badly. And while the full history is more convoluted than the short clip from January 2019, Harris’ plan would largely have the same effects as her initial response to Tapper’s question: Most if not all people who like their current health coverage could not keep it.

Political Somersaults Over Maintaining Private Insurance

Following the controversy her initial comments generated, Harris undertook a series of “clarifications” about whether single-payer should retain a role for private coverage. Four months after her first interview with CNN, she argued in a follow-up discussion with Tapper that she didn’t mean to ban all private insurance. She tried to claim she wanted to “get rid of all the bureaucracy” and “all of the waste,” but keep a role for private insurance.
