I have this personal belief that many of the Maga faithful suffered some form of abuse in their lives. You know, yesterday a very insidious aspect of white privilege occurred to me, at work of all places, and no, it wasn't due to a customer. It was this: I realized that I had quite forgotten just how racist Trump was, but had been reminded of it lately. I had that luxury, because I am white. If I weren't white, I wouldn't ever have had the ability to forget just how racist Trump is if I was at all perceptive and not just in raging denial. Now that, my friends, is a form of privilege so fucking complete that it was entirely invisible to me until just yesterday. I don't think that white privilege exists for me on the same level that it does for rich men or in the same ways that it does for Karens, but it does exist to an extent, and at this point, it's undeniable. It's more nuanced than some of the more militant identity politics stans believe, but it's far more real than many folks care to admit. The truth is somewhere in the middle, the devil is in the details, but the insidious nature of white privilege that it really is fucking invisible to white folks most of the time. We have to be confronted with it to usually see it.
