Okay I got home from work today and decided to spend some time outside with my cats and wife. We had been out in our courtyard for maybe ten minutes when our neighbors came home and decided to crank up their stereos. (I somehow think they were competing with each other with their "BoomBoxes".) Wrong day for these idiots to think I wanted to listen to their music. (These people live on either side of me, our courtyards seperated only by single fences.)

Tired of their B.S. with their music every evening I decided tonight was a good time to listen to my music. Dragging out the speakers for my stereo I placed them on either side of my courtyard, pointed towards the fences and their courtyards. Once these were in place I loaded up the tray with CD's. Nothing too onerous mind you, just groups like Lynyrd Skynard and Molly Hatchet.

I suppose I should mention my father is a retired Electronics Engineer who gets bored easily. Just before I moved south he got his hands on my stereo for a week. It's not exactly stock off the shelves. Now I have never took the time to measure the output but he claims it will put out something like 1000 watts per channel and I believe him. (The one time I pushed it up past 2 on the dial it blew the fuses in my old 400 watt speakers. )

Somehow I don't think I will have to listen to their Rap for a while. :D

(Oh yeah I know I'll be getting a complaint from the property manager about this, but she hasn't been doing a thing about the ten complaints I've put in about my neighbors music.)

Lucky I don't live there too. Otherwise it would be a big Polka fest.

I am reminded of Daffy:

"Of course, you realize this means war?"

Seacat, I could send you a cd of native music.

Hmmmmmm, now that is an idea. I'll have to think about that one. (Thanks for the offer and the idea.)

A recommendation for you, SeaCat.

Bagpipes!

You know, somewhere around here I have a tape of the "Black Watch" during one of their performances. If they decide to crank up their music again I may have to dig it out.

Cat

(That should get them scratching at the walls and pulling out their hair.)

Done at the proper volume it should have their brains running out of their noses.

Assuming they have brains, of course.

Even Schoenberg.

Cant,

I have several discs of German Folk Music I could use. (Normally called Oompah music.)

Music for annoying the neighbours? Lovely.

Although I have never been in such a situation, I have certain preferences for music that very few people I know can stand. Of course, the enjoyment would require that the music not drive you insane.

In modern symphonic compositions, I'd recommend Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima by Krzysztof Penderecki or Turangalîla Symphonie by Olivier Messiaen. Industrial music is generally quite good, Throbbing Gristle, certain Cabaret Voltaire, and definitely Einstürzende Neubaten (they use jackhammers) would work. Chinese Classical Music is another potentially good choice, I rather enjoy it, but apparently a lot of people find it kind of shrill and screechy.

I have fun listening to Einstuertzende Neubauten.

They're hilarious. Und keine Eier!!!

:D

But Diamanda is just ear-grating. I stand by Diamanda, in the face of Death in June, Einstuertzende Neubauten, Deutsch Nepal, Legendary Pink Dots, and Current 93!

Excellent choices for annoying the neighbours all though. What about Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music?

He did that entirely to be annoying, the little prick. You're right.

Even so. He doesn't surpass Diamanda Galas.

Close, tho.

I am so amazed to find the many things we have in common, imp. It's a good thing for my marriage that we live so far from each other. :rose:

Nice one, Cat.

I did the same sort of thing at college. The guys down the hall were blaring some kind of crap through their so-called juiced up stereo system. It was pretty loud and made it difficult to watch TV, do homework, get laid or do much of anything.

However, I worked for the college auditorium as a sound engineer.

You can guess what happened next.

Yup, I went and got our mobile external events rig and hooked it up in my room.

No more blasting music from down the hallway after that.

I used to own a bar. If we started to get in elements we did not want, we would just play music that they could not stand. The undesirables would leave and the bar started to make money again. Strangely, the "go-away" music was not really what the regulars wanted to hear, but was not all that offensive to them.

If you find something that the neighbors do not like, you have a weapon!

I think Southern Rock and BlueGrass might count towards that.

I use Lola Flores, the Spanish Flamenco diva.

I used to use a 78rpm of singing dogs, but the cats broke it.

Edited for PS. This site: Miserable Melodies is a great source. I recommend the Portsmouth Sinfonia and Florence Foster-Jenkins for maximum impact.

If you want to kill your neighbours, I recommend Swedish Danceband Music. Trust me, it has NOTHING to do with Dance or Techno or House...

This is what 50-year-olds dance foxtrot to on Saturday night. I particularly recommend anything by Vikingarna or Sven-Ingvars. Lotta Engberg will do the trick nicely, too.

Ja, jag vet, jag är en elak satmara. Det är ett av mina trevligaste karaktärsdrag.
