The only difference being that they believe that the blood of Christ washes away their sins. It doesn't mean, and Todd might have to help me here, that their sinning days are over. And it doesn't give them any right to pass judgment on anyone.

I bought one on those "on sale" books that few people read at Borders once. It was a series of interviews from people very high up in all religions of the world. You'd be amazed at the tolerance and love that these people have for humanity and for different viewpoints.

The old south resisted any suggestion that blacks were any more than subhuman niggers. The Baptists, and other denominations did nothing to resist that mindset. Left on their own, you would still have a George Wallace standing at the entrance of the University of Alabama blocking the door to people of color. We were wrong. We changed, and I think you'll find less racism in the South than other parts of the country. Certainly not any more. That was the experience of Celestial Body who had lived in Georgia and moved away.

And we are wrong on homosexuality. And I'm not saying I don't struggle with the issue either. You probably wont find me marching in a Gay Day parade.

Since Todd isn't answering, I'll put on my good Southern Baptist Sunday dress for a moment and explain. This is what I've learned from being raised in a Southern Baptist church and attending a Methodist church during college. (Yeah, the family was in an uproar over that.)

Christians still sin after being saved, we're just supposed to try harder not to. We're supposed to realize what we're doing is wrong (sin) and avoid committing it again. Of course, this comes with the realization, that by asking for forigiveness, it will be given. I can't remember exactly where but there's a passage where Jesus was asked how often to forgive someone who had wronged you and he said as often as my father has forgiven you and then somehow the number 70 times 70 is brought in. That's a lot of times to commit the same sin, but there's punishment factored in there somewhere for continuing to commit the same sin over and over.

We're NOT supposed to judge anyone. That where the "Let he without sin cast the first stone" comes from (biblical version of glass houses). Unfortunately, far too many Christians lose sight of those verses. Perhaps, because it was a prostitute who was saved by those words.
