Just for fun.............

9th clue - Cast of a thousand?
I just know this isn't right, but I have to make this guess--UnderYourSpell ('cuz a being subject to casting spells and, oh, I don't know, she's Anne of a Thousand Days?)

Urk.

No, it's not Annie and I'm getting nowhere with either of yours - but then you're always more obscure than me. :)

I've worked my way through a lot of Litsers and not come up with anything that seems to fit that. Your other clues were straightforward, so I assume I am simply being dim.

As to my own two cloos, I am. Obscure. I think I'm still timestuck in teenagerishness, at times, trying to be cool by referencing arty things I really don't understand (and no one else does, either).

Fuck.

I constructed those backwards, so they probably aren't easy to decipher, especially the second one, which you kind of have to know the answer to get it.

Sigh.

OK. Supplemental information:
  • For Binghamton hip-hop, please phone home!, change the clue to Brentwood rap, phone Binghamton!
  • Change Waiting for Victor to "I'm waiting for Victor," says Ellis.
Google should do the rest.

Perhaps. :)

Tried Google, maybe found 1:
Brentwood rap, phone Binghamton! - Epmd607
Nothing with the 2nd

  • 6: Liar. From his tagline and name. Miss his poems.
  • 7: WickedEve, from her tagline "Save an apple, eat Eve."
  • 8: Boo, who is always laughing and laughing and laughing.
  • This is purely a guess: bronzeage. (Um, y'know, cast bronze, era lasting some thousand years?)
Obscure comeback:
Waiting for Victor
I believe you're referring to LaurenHynde since a character named Lauren says words to the effect of "I'm waiting for Victor" in Rules of Attraction, a novel by Ellis.

Brentwood rap, phone Binghamton! - Epmd607
Correct. EPMD is a rap group from Brentwood, NY and 607 is Binghamton, NY's area code.

I've been trying to decipher where the hell the NY boys (Epmd607 and bflagsst) derived their aliases from, likely without success. They seem so strange that I just keep picking at them, like somehow the reasoning behind the alias will somehow open like a blister or a gift.

This was one of my attempts.

Yep. "Lauren Hynde" is a character in several Brett Easton Ellis novels (an author whom our Lauren has previously expressed affection for). In The Rules of Attraction, she (i.e., the character "Lauren Hynde") dallies with various other Ellisite characters while vaguely pining for the return of her boyfriend, Victor Johnson, from Europe (see Wikipedia, for example).

I knew you'd be the first to get that one. :D
I'd been thinking about the Françoise Sagan angle for some time, trying to come up with an appropriate, but not too easy (at least for those who know French) clue. I didn't know the Paul Éluard reference until I was looking at the Wikipedia article on Bonjour Tristesse, which explained the "goodbye/hello" part of your clue.

So, no. I am not omniscient. It's just smoke, mirrors, and Wikipedia (mostly Wikipedia). And anyway, this one was easy because I think about Tess a lot. A lot. :)

Boy, I hope that comment embarrasses the hell out of her. I've been trying to get her to blush for, like, five years. :)
