When you get to one of these threads where someone has cut and pasted the latest "news" story to catch their eye, do you just scroll past it real quick and look to see if there's an original thought attached? And if not do you just close the thread and move on?

I do.

It depends what the latest news story is about. But yes I always look to see if the thread starter has expressed an opinion or comment about what they have copy and pasted.

Who originated the thread sometimes has an influence, but mostly, I don't even bother to open.

If it is an interesting article I haven't read before, sure I will read it.

Rather an improvement on reading who just got spanked and how many times someone came in the rice crispies today -- neither of which I have bothered to open. But, this is the general board at a site dedicated to free speech, and to each their own...

Depends on the article, really. If it looks interesting, I may read it. If it looks long, I probably won't. Unless there is a personal comment about it that interests me, in which case I may read it even if it is long.

If I post an article, I usually try to post some comment to go with it.

Sure, a little set up always helps. I think it's always nice to know why someone thinks it's important that we see something.... And honestly I 20 times more likely to follow a link that's been posted than to read someone's cut and past job.

But it's like you open up a thread and there's a headline that says "Dirk Jerkins 42 Reasons Why Public Schools Hate the Internet" and that's it and it really feels like the internet equivalent of someone throwing a magazine at you and saying "Hey, fucking read that article on shit stains" and walking away.

And the other feeling I get is that when someone relies on the old cut and paste job it's sort of like a Cliff's Notes version of intellect. It's like they're saying, "Well, I don't have an original thought, but if I did this would be it."

I guess all I really want is for people to show they care, lol.

Depends. If the article hooks me in I will finish and see what peole have to say about it, if not, I go look at pictures of dicks and boobies and stuff.

Maybe I misunderstood the question. If I post an article, it is the whole thing. AND a link to the original source. Cut and paste to me doesn't mean just pieces of an article. I'm more likely to read something if it IS cut and paste into a thread than if I have to go find the article to read it. Saves time if it is posted here.

i must admit i often do that i do like political threads but i also do read the news so i don't need to just have the news posted here for me :)

although with some storys it can start some good discussion but i still prefer that they post what they think about the story at least

I just talk about ducks on every thread no matter the topic, and no one has cared yet.

yeah but if you copy and pasted articles about ducks that didnt have your duck-attitude then they wouldnt be as good :)

That's because they are original ducks.
