Just A Support Thread

Zodia~ Yeah, it does. :) I have several in the non-erotic category. Hmm, that sounds like a pain to get it on here, but hopefully it would be worth it in the end. :)

Katiecat~ Uh, yeah! lol. That's why half of my unfinished stories are unfinished. I hate starting over.. but sometimes thats what it takes. And I nominate.. caffeine and sleep. ;)

michchick~ I've done that too- mushing some of the old into a new. That typically works for me also. :) Stupid characters, wanting to have their own way, lol.

dark~ wow, would you people please stop having all the titles in the world? That's probably why I can think of any. :( lol. ;)

I am trying to work on Ch. 6 of my Dragons of Fraidel and am at one of those points where I am inbetween exciting scenes so I am a bit tuck. Ug. I hate it when that happens.

When I get bored writing a scene, I know I have to find a way to make it more interesting. In fact I always know if I'm writing something rubbish because I'm bored doing it. When it's better, I get excited. I'd find a way to make your scene more interesting -- whether it's challenging yourself to do something different as a writer, or changing what happens in it. I sometimes get enthralled about writing a single line because they can be pivotal.

I'm back on to my LW murder mystery/psychological thriller style story today and am really enjoying switching between the male/female POV, which I don't normally do. I love the contrasts between the characters.

Incidentally, if it's of use to anybody, I have a new blog post today on why sociopaths make good male leads: http://litfriction.blogspot.com/

Happy weekend writing, all :)

{Looks around. Blinks.} Ooh, it's rather nice in here. :) Mind if I put the kettle on? I've brought tea and biscuits.

Do you ever have character stop in the middle of the scene, turn and look at you, and say, "WTF are you doing? How did we end up here?" Not so good when your characters smack you down.

LOL, absolutely. I've ended up having to delete thousands of words sometimes. It's usually a question of finding the point where the story wandered off in the wrong direction. I'm not brave enough to just press 'delete' though. I have to copy and paste the words somewhere else, just in case, and then hit delete. But never yet have I ended up going back to the original.

I've spent the day plotting when really I should've just been writing. I've got 2 stories in my head at the moment, a novel length one and a shorter one that keeps nagging at me to write it. I'm not very good at writing short stories though. They will insist on turning into novellas, grr.

And I'm with you on the titles, Emerald. I have terrible problems coming up with them!

I have several long stories that stalled years ago because the characters wouldn't fit the plot.

From time to time I read through them. Very rarely I can restart them but often they give me ideas for a new story.

My unfinished stories outnumber my completed ones by three to one.

Welcome! Don't mind all the leopard print decor. :p ;)

LOL... I am so with ya on not being brave enough to delete... sometimes I copy and paste too.. ya know.. just in case. ;)
(In most cases though, it can't be any worse than what I had to start with, LOL.)
Thanks for joining us. :)

I have a vampire story that had been floating for a bit.. my brain insisted on skipping what I've been working on and starting in on that one again. I know, everyone and their brother is writing vampire stuff.. but I can't help it. Tell me why they're so hot? :p lol.

Hmm...I dunno, I think they're only hot when just finished feeding as the warmth of their prey's blood is still fresh within them. Otherwise, just animate corpses, sort of cold by definition, y'know? ;):D

I KNOW! The obsession makes no sense.. lol.
Maybe I need a life. hehe.

Hi Rem. :) Thanks for poppin' in. ;) :rose:

Oh, this thread is growing. Yay Kitty!

MICH and EmKit, my Valentine's entry ~Heart's Tempest~ is actually a mushing of 2 poems and then the prose.

I have several projects going on currently. My fae one started as a LONG poem. It had gotten so long, that I had to turn it into prose. Now, I have to work on mushing the poetry and the prose together for the story. It has Earthday potential too.

I am also slowly working on the the third in my shifting/goddess series. That one has a mix of categories thus far, bit of bondage, f/f, and the potential is there for a threesome. We'll see if I get ambitious enough for all of it. *laughs* Ah, broadening my writerly horizons is fun!

A traditional Irish folk song (a favorite of mine), inspired another story. So many versions, but Loreena McKennitt's rendition was the spark. It's a tale of what would happen if the most widely known lyrics remained the same, but the circumstances were vastly different?

A fun romp between animal friendly people is in the works as well.

AND...the latest inspiration, a trip to the grocery store before a blizzard for a single Momma. *nods* What can I say? I had major cabin fever from being snow/ice bound for over a week. ;)

Yup, big culprit of unfinished business. But, I'm proud to say that entering the contests have really forced me to push myself to finish. I might write pretty long short stories, but I am no novelist (at least not yet). I wish I were! Much better market for novelists than short fiction writers, especially romance and erotica.

Now, I'm waiting anxiously for the winners to be announced.

What is prose? I've heard it plenty of times but never knew what it was.

I decided I will upload my completed story here that doesn't have any love scenes it, but I am going to wait til I go home for Spring break next month. That way I can work on it. I finally finished editing it. I swear it took me longer to edit this story than it was to write it and type it. Besides grammar, I made story changes to it after reading it over and over, and suggestions from other people who read it too. I started writing this story in 1998 and finished writing it in 2002. I started typing it the same year but made my first changes when typing it and I finished typing it in 2008. The last time I edited it, I added more to Ch. 1. This story is my baby and I loved the chars so much that I am creating a series out of it.

I never really had that problem where I wrote myself into a corner because I plan out my whole story before writing it. And I must be among the 1% that doesn't write about vampires lol. There is only one story that I created that has two vampires in it and that's it. hehe.

And I nominate.. caffeine and sleep. ;)

Well...sleep didn't help the writing process, so tonight I'm trying more caffeine :D

Yep, I am guilty of this, too. But I have gone back from time to time to the junk yard of prose and picked up phrases, snippets of dialogue, bit-player characters, and descriptions of places or people. Recycling, re-purposing -- it's the environmentally responsible way to write!

I have several long stories that stalled years ago because the characters wouldn't fit the plot.

Og, this is actually quite encouraging. If a writer as prolific as you are experiences this, then I feel like there may be hope for me.

After reading your comment that Earth Day is one of the more difficult contest themes, I started rolling an idea around in my head. We'll see if anything comes of it...

A traditional Irish folk song (a favorite of mine), inspired another story. So many versions, but Loreena McKennitt's rendition was the spark. It's a tale of what would happen if the most widely known lyrics remained the same, but the circumstances were vastly different?

Which story is that -- one you've posted here? I have one on here that was inspired by Jethro Tull's "Hunting Girl". I've liked the song for years, but one day I sat down and really listened to the words. I was surprised at the story it inspired -- some elements I don't usually write about, sort of experimental. But it was fun to write. :D

My vampire story... well, the characters really just wanna have sex. And I don't have time to write it properly! :(
Wow.. lol. Actually, I am working on it now, but I don't have much longer.
I've gotta get this day rollin'. :)

I'm sure we can all think of a couple of convoluted vamp plots to help you along? Could they be fighting some werewolves in between the screwing? Or talking about a new army of vamps on their "patch"? Or maybe they're vampire hookers. Vampire hookers who are sushi chefs in the daytime. There you go...

Vampire hookers who are sushi chefs in the daytime. There you go...

Yes! I love the sushi chef hooker vampire!

[apologies ahead of time for the sidetrack post]

There's a place for vampires as killing sex machines, or as brooding sex machines, or the head-of-corporate-empire type, etc. And I love those stories, really.

But... remember this exchange in the Buffy Doppelgangland episode, where Willow was a vampire?

Willow: It's horrible! That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil and... skanky. And I think I'm kinda gay.
Buffy: Willow, just remember, a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was.
Angel: Well, actually... That's a good point.

[It doesn't come through in the text, but I think Buffy glares at Angel and he alters what he was going to say.]

I'd love a story where the vampire really did reflect a person's true personality, the whacky one we all have inside, complete with our secret dream careers or strange personality quirks and obsessions. The sushi chef gets to that. Vampires have been around for how long? Quirks intensify as we get older (or at least mine do), so vamps should have major quirks and tics, in addition to their dream profession.

Personally, I'd love to be a member of the chorus on Broadway. Or be a physicist and solve string theory. And have giant collections of depression glass measuring cups, old fashioned cake toppers, and Caravaggios. If I could live forever... I'd definitely pursue one or all of these things. My basement would be chock full of crap I'd collected over the years. Hell, I could just kill the people who own the things I want; who needs ebay or auctions?

I'm not saying that my dreams are interesting for a story... but I'm sure someone else's are. I'd really enjoy quirky vampire stories (though perhaps my quirks have led me to be in the minority here).

PS-- Firebrain? Your Valentine's story killed my productivity for a couple of hours. Mentioning "Buffy" and "montage" in the same story should not be allowed. I had to rush to find my Once More, With Feeling DVD; I've been singing those stupid songs ever since, dancing around my house pretending I'm in a Bob Fosse show.

Ah, but did you eat beetroot pickle on crackers at the same time?!

I love Buffy and Angel. I re-watch them all at least twice a year. Best writing EVER. Well, except Firefly. Dexter and Mad Men are catching up...

Ah, but did you eat beetroot pickle on crackers at the same time?!

Did you install one of those CCTV things in my house?

I planted five types of beets in my garden last year, and I pickled four of them (erm, I have a strange obsession with root vegetables). So yes, I actually was eating pickled beets (I think we're talking about the same thing). But as I like them straight up, no crackers.

ZODIA: If it is not poetry it is prose, basically. So, stories are considered prose. I'm with you on that. I have a novel that's been in progress for years. Is that the unicorn one that you are talking about? If it is I can't WAIT to read it! I have one of those, just haven't reworked it enough to satisfaction yet to release :)

Katiecat: I haven't posted it yet. I have to finish writing it first. :) Oh, I'll have to check your stories out!

*laughs EmKit, Firebrain, Tatyana* I'll admit, if it weren't for my bestfriend being so vampyre obsessed, I probably never would have written my ~Enlightened By Darkness~. But she loved it and she approved and I've gotten good vampyre-lover feedback on it. Sooo...

Tatyana *LMAO*

I'm still waiting to see how my sojourn into the werewolf-type-shifter subject: ~Shifting Illuminations~ goes. So far people are enjoying it!

Oh oh OH!!! *excitement evident* Firebrain, thank you for the heads-up and the link!!!! We all should. :) I've just spent a couple of hours working on my Earth Day entry. I will e-mail them. Thanks again!

Do we know anything about if they compensate or just the thrill of publishing under their name? I couldn't find anything on the site. They're also accepting Nocturne Bites 10,000-15,000 words paranormal/suspense/danger/thrill...alpha yum. *laughs* Among other categories, as well.

Yes that is my unicorn one hehe. You'll have to be patient to see though. I am going to wait to get the final edited version off my comp which is at home and I am not going home til March for Spring Break. I love unicorns! That's one creature that's appeared the most in any of my stories.

Ooh, I'm excited over that link also! lol. :)

I'm glad you guys are using me, er, I mean, my thread. Yes. The thread. :D
Hmm.... my biggest issue is just not having time/privacy/no distractions!!!! for long enough to get some serious writing done.
Perhaps one of these days. :)
Hmm, a dirty vampire hooker. Interesting. :D

Katiecat, as a side note.. I make that cat face too!!!! How fun! lol. :catroar:

Zodia...I'll try to wait patiently. Me too! I secretly know that my miniature horse is a faery-horse. She's just too jovial and spritely not to be! She's an imp. I have encountered unicorns before. Most of the encounters have been more ethereal. I even have a picture of one I caught at a waterfall. Most of He is proudly stepping out of the falls and the glow pouring of him was inspiring! I have a unicorn that appears in my dreams and I know that one day he will find me. Do you like regular horses too? :)

I clicked on almost every link on the page, lol. One of the pages.. don't ask me where.. hehe.. said something to the effect that once a contract is offered, you'll enter monetary negotiations. It said that was confidential.. and I think it said something about not finding any information about pay on the site. Paraphrasing here, lol. :)

Just wanted to let ya know! :)
