I just received this from my brother:

Jury Duty Scam DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING ! =A0Pass this on to your grown children.

This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). P=ease pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced. =br>
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can =erify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.

The fraud ha s been reported so far in 11 states, including O=lahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) =s particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Check it out here: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/june06/jury_scams06020=.htm

Yep! It's true

Pleas= make sure and pass this on!

I'd think that if I got a call like this, now, I'll reply "This call is being taped and your phone number is being recorded by the phone company. Do not attempt to flee, the FBI will be at your address shortly to pick you up." Scam is as scam does. ;)

Who are you looking for?

Nope, don't know him.

I'm sure, you have a wrong number. There is no such person here.

Well fuck you too!

You think that's bad? In some communities with lots of military families, women have received phone calls claiming that the woman's husband has been injured in Iraq and the caller needs SSN etc. so they can get her to his bedside in Germany.

Hello?

Don't you mean his Service Number? Why would you need my SSN?

Bug off jackoff!

I never give out my social security number to someone I don't know, regardless of what he or she is telling me.

In an instance such as this, I'd ask which court I was to report to, then hang up and call that court. I actually missed a summons for jury duty and got a follow up letter a few months later. I called the court to verify and all they asked for was my name and the "juror number" that appeared on the summons.

And I really hate to say this because of anyone who might have had their identity stolen at one time, but if people are stupid enough to fall for something like this, then it's their own fault. With the way things are nowadays, everyone should be cautious about giving out any information that could potentially give your identity away.

On top of that, if someone wants to steal my identity, I say let them. My credit is so bad, they'd probably call me up and tell me I could have my stuff back.
