so im kinda wondering if anyones been having the same experiences w/ e mail that ive had over the past few months.. ive always gotten spam and junk mail, but never like im getting now.. everyday my box is full of shit.. i have a yahoo acct and an aol one. its weird because i dont go into chats or anything on aol, or yahoo for that matter..but i still get incredible amounts of trash.. has anyone found a good way to reduce junk mail? or better yet not get any at all? its starting to become quite annoying.. the filters dont work, ive heard not to unsubcribe.. etc... hmm..

just thought id throw it out and see if anyone has anything to say about this.

My yahoo acct is getting a lot too. The only thing I'm using it for anymore is to correspond with Lit stuff now cause its getting to be a pain in the ass. When we got cable, I was able to get an e mail addy with the ISP, works wonders! No spam! It's probably yahoo. If you're using that e mail addy when signing up to certain sites, they give the addy to mailing lists and crap as well, that could be a part of the problem.

yeah, im more understanding of the aol problem just because theyre aol, but its the only addr i will use when i sign up for shit, since i know thats an easy way for your addr to be distributed an all... but the yahoo, i never give that out.. so it must just be a yahoo thing.. shitty.. maybe i should shop for a new e mail addr.

My yahoo gets no spam at all and I've had it for over a year. Of course, I rarely give it out at all. It's possible someone got pissed off at you and plunked your email address in a few sites that collect them to sell to spammers. I didn't. If you have your email address put up on a webpage anywhere, there are spambots that do nothing but go through every webpage and collect email links. You should never put your email address up on a webpage without a good reason.

most free accts online all have the spam problem, Hotmail is notorious for it

It was just in the past few months that I had problems with mine, and I've had it for at least 3 years now. It really pissed me off too, I loved that addy:(

Spammers abound. It's tough to get rid of spam.

There is a site called www.mail2web.com, where, depending on your ISP, you can preview your email without actually downloading it to your mail server. This allows you to screen your email and delete the junk. Sort of a manual filter if you will.

Give it a shot

Spam, like some other things, comes in spurts. With the spam I receive, it's a weekly cycle.

One e-mail account I have that is particularly spamful, also carries a limit to how many messages I can store. When the limit is exceeded, all other messages get sent back as undeliverable. Occasionally, I let my account fill up to the limit just before I expect the spam spurt. The spammers apparently remove my address when their messages bounce, because the quantity drops dramatically in subsequent weeks.

After I figure the peak has passed, I need to make room in the account for non-spam. I try to be surgical about it, so I minimize the non-spam messages that might bounce while the account is full.
