Artists I love, that others may not know of yet-

Nikka Costa- soul, blues, pop, funk, fantastic. She is the music in the Tommy Hilfiger commercials.

Milla Jovovich- yes, the model. Her stuff is surprisingly good. Folk, kind of pop, kind of world.

Gypsy Soul- Amazing voice, mostly ballads.

Stephen Lynch- if you like comedy songs. Look up "Lullabye"

What do you reccomend?

Realizing that this might not be to everyone's taste, my favorite artist is Karlheinz Stockhausen. Electronic Classical and "Intuitive" Music.

Yo Anais...I really like that Nikka Costa. Funky stuff.

Ok I'm gonna' reccomend anything by Dread Zeppelin. Reggae covers of (mostly) Zeppelin tunes, fronted by Tortelvis, an elvis impersonater.

"You ain't nuthin' but a black dog ..."

Heh ... I love that stuff.

Cool- this is what I like. Hearing about music I have not known before-

Downloading.

Tortelvis rules!

Try out 'Hot Sauce Johnson' for some heavy soul.
'Spike 1000', 'Clawfinger' for heavy rock.
'2SKinneeJ's', 'Shootyz Groove' and 'Dial-7' for some fun rap soaked hop-rock.

'Lusk', 'acetone', 'aesthetic' for dreamier mellow rock.

'Shiner', 'Sunny Day Real Estate'.....hmmm

Anyone interested can check out Red Stick Rock

It's a site for the care and feeding of the Baton Rouge Louisiana music scene. I can recommend: Judge Genius, Sola, Gangsta Folk, The Kenmores and TABU. These are some of the rockier bands but there is bluegrass, country, and plenty of jam there too....

Ok, I know they've been around for a while, but the BoDeans are a band who have GREAT stuff yet don't get any radio play. If you loved the "Party of Five" theme song but never knew who the hell that band was, I suggest you check out "Runaway," "Naked," and "True Devotion." Also, if you can find the live version, "Good Work" is one of their best tunes.

Though they aren't new

the GORILLAZ. Very cool band. Watched them on tv on the Brit
music awards made me love them even more.

I really like Jack Johnson. He's alternative, "Bubbly Toes" and "Flake" are his two popular songs I hear a lot now.
Hey have any of you guys heard of Thicke? He's new, I can't find his CD anywhere but have seen his video on music channels and have heard it on the radio a few times (the song is called "When I get you alone.")

Give Steve Earle a try

I've always had a liking for Southern Rock. Stuff like the Outlaws, the Marshal Tucker Band, Blackfoot, the Bottle Rockets, etc.

You might have heard Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road" or maybe his "John Walker's Blues" (I first heard about it on a thread here at Lit). Try his "Mercenary Song", "Tom Ames' Prayer", or "The Devil's Right Hand". His song writing is considered by some to be in the same league as Bob Dylan.
