A federal judge on Monday granted former President Donald Trump’s request that a special master review items the FBI seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and also halted the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) use of the items for “investigative purposes.”

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump-appointed judge, ruled that a special master will be appointed to review the seized items to determine if any are personal items or items subject to claims of attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

Cannon also ruled that the DOJ must suspend its use of Trump’s items for “investigative purposes” while the special master conducts its review, but also noted that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence could continue its “classification review and/or intelligence assessment.”

Cannon wrote that the court was “mindful of the need to ensure at least the appearance of fairness and integrity under the extraordinary circumstances presented” in granting Trump’s request.

It seems to fit the definition of judicial overreach. I guess that’s fine now.

It doesn't matter. Theyve already done the internal review. The specialaster will agree and 45 will file some other horseshit to delay. He uses the court to wait out the clock every. Single. Time.

The problem the judge is going to have by deciding to appoint a special master is finding someone with the necessary security clearance.

Has Judge Cannon explained how she can make a ruling on something she has no jurisdiction over?

First off Trump appointed her to her position, so she owes Trump. As for the special master that is going to be a major problem as there are very few people qualified to review SCI documents and foreign nuclear assessments.

I think that Barack Obama is available.

The delay is unnecessary but doesn’t change much. Aspects of the investigation that do not specifically rely on items seized can continue and the security assessment is not impacted. Former AG Barr reportedly said on Fox News yesterday that he believes the ruling is flawed and will be overturned on appeal. Also that he expressed doubts about an actual prosecution.

Still TBD if DOJ will appeal the special master. One possibility is an appeal with narrower ruling that allows a special master to review and filter material for attorney client privilege but not for the more questionable subject of executive privilege.

“I don’t think the appointment of a special master is going to hold up,” Mr. Barr said on Fox News Channel, adding: “I don’t think it changes the ballgame so much as maybe we’ll have a rain delay for a couple of innings.”

There is an entire federal court, complete with active and retired judges, that deals with nothing but highly classified materials.

It's a shit ruling that ignores nearly the entirety of the DoJ filing. It should be overturned

Grievance porn.
Yah, not quite. I'd have to ramble on about 50 other unrelated things for it to be gp.

Excellent job by Cannon to ignore the DoJ's argument completely and even call out deficiencies when the specific arguments and evidences were clearly provided.
