There’s a lot of misinformation floating around now about Judaism, so why not clear it up?

Disclaimer: my answers will be from the perspective of an American reform Jew. If you asked an Israeli, a conservative Jew, or an orthodox Jew you’d probably get different answers. Which is cool because one of the first things you should know about Jews is that we disagree about everything.

Other Jews are welcome to join in and correct me. I’m not a rabbi and my Hebrew is pretty shaky.

You defend Judaism from a very western centric angle. Being American that is understandable. In that vein, western media has also followed that same paradigm when reporting or writing about Jewish causes and their plight such as it is.

With that in mind, I’d like to hear your views on the importance of Jewish leadership in the Bolshevik revolution. For instance, Jewish leadership in the subversive leftist parties leading up to the revolution? I can understand the hostility towards the imperial regime but how do you square the peg for Jewish support of a far more despotic Soviet regime?

I ask because I’ve never seen you defend it or denounce it. By and large, American Jews and the media have long ignored this topic.

Antisemitism was strong under the Czar, so it’s not surprising Russian Jews might want him out. But after initially promoting equality for the Jews, the Communists quickly turned to stamping out all signs of religion or ethnic identity to promote unity under Marxism. Many Israelis are the descendants of Russian Jews who were forced to flee the Soviet Union. In retrospect, Jewish support of the Bolsheviks was foolish, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

While I have zero doubt that antisemitism is absolutely real, particularly among Israel's Arab neighbours who refuse to use the country's name and refer to it only as the Zionist state, all the same it pisses me off when Netanyahu plays the antisemitism card against anyone and everyone who thinks Israel's disproportionate and callous trashing of the whole of Gaza deserves criticism.

I do get that the fight is existential. Arab countries have tried to wipe Israel off the map before and had their asses handed back to them, and I don't disapprove of Israel's military and intelligence might being used that way, against genuine military combatants. Self-preservation is even within the remit of international law. But justifying massive indiscriminate civilian casualties "because antisemitism" is disingenuous. Sure, many, probably most Palestinians hold deep anti-Israel views but I believe a lot of that's due to having been turfed off land they justifiably thought was theirs in 1947 and ever afterwards. Essentially, their claim to Palestine was rather more recent than the Old Testament.

In 1948, Israel’s neighbors tried to snuff out the nascent Jewish state. They told the Arabs to flee while they exterminated the Jews. The Israelis fought back, so now the grandchildren of the Arabs who fled want “their” land back.

The European form of antisemitism -- CTs about Jews controlling things from behind the scenes -- was never very important in the U.S., where antisemitism usually took the form of social prejudice -- Jews being kept out of certain neighborhoods, hotels, clubs. (WIlliam Levitt, the founder of Levittown, was Jewish himself, but he would not sell to Jews -- if there were Jews in Levittown, the better (Anglo-Saxon) class of gentiles would not want to live there. Needless to say, selling to blacks was not even to be considered.)

But if you lurk a bit on Stormfront, you will see that the Euro form is very important in the thinking of American White Nationalists. Probably because they admire the German Nazis, and have copied the whole package of Nazi antisemitism. But they've put their own American twist on it: Jews were the nefarious force behind the black civil rights movement, because they want to encourage race-mixing, because a mixed-race population is stupider than a white population and therefore easier for the Jews to control.

I recall reading in The History of White People in America, by Martin Mull:

I have nothing against those privately practicing their faith or religion. It's up to the individual to find their happiness in whatever way suits them best. But religious conservatism and fundamentalism has no place in modern, decent society.

Israel is an ally because their intelligence agencies Mossad and Shin Bet do an amazing amount of work for us that our CIA no longer has the capacity to undertake. Since the end of the Cold War the US has gutted our HUMINT or human intelligence programs in favor of electronic eavesdropping.

We might hear something but we often turn to the Israelis to execute some of the actions that we simply don't have the people for anymore.

Israel is also a friendly base for the American military and many of our military operations in the region operate from Israel.

Israel is also host to our forward prepositioning of military vehicles, military aircraft, and military supplies. The US keeps enough gear in Israel to wage a small war. And the Israelis maintain all of it for us.

Israel is one of the very few countries where the USAF will allow our most sensitive aircraft to land. Things you and I should never know about are allowed to land in Israel because those people understand security and they can keep a secret.
