Thank you, all.
Damn. Doesn't take much to get me all teary again.
Figured I'd be done by now.

es for you and Jonesey, Sarah. I've lost a few furry family members myself. It's always hard to let the innocent ones go.New kitten is sleeping on my feet.
She has decided to be mine.
I have to post Jonesey's pics.
Goodnight, handsome boy.

I remember Critter. What a wonderful lady she was.
I also remember your bout with cellulitis. Scary stuff, that. Very glad you and Magi made peace.
We have a new kitten - she's a stray - and she is in my lap at the moment while I'm typing. She's mine. She chose me.
If I really believed in karma I would think that she showed up in time to help me deal with losing Jonesey. Maybe.

)She's in my AV now. We named her Pixie.
I saw her the first time in mid-March.
She was tiny, thin, walking across the back yard.
She made it about halfway before she stopped, then turned back towards the house.
When I next saw her she was attempting to eat old dog food that we'd put out for the birds.
I opened the door to put out a plate of dry cat food and she ran. Still, I left the food, and not too long after I closed the door she came back to eat in a very starved fashion.
We fed her for a few days while she kept her distance.
Then she decided that the "people who give food" must be okay. She talked to us, brushed up against us, wanted to be friends. Sweet kitty.
That's when we noticed just how thin and how young she was. Maybe 16 weeks - truly a kitten. What on earth is this baby doing wandering the neighborhood?
A couple of nights later it dipped way below freezing - snow and ice. I know - surprising for March.
So - yeah - we took her in. We kept her in daughter's bedroom for a few days to acclimate her to the house and to keep her separate from the rest of the cats until we knew she's free of disease. We treated her fleas.
She didn't stop eating for three days. She kept right by the dish, at times kept a paw on it.
She still hasn't settled in with the other cats yet, it's uneasy, but she hasn't been spayed yet. That will help.
But she sleeps on my feet, in my lap, or on my pillow, now that Jonesey is gone.
She's very smart. She's about to take over alpha male (which Jonesey was) because she's so intelligent. Once she gets a little bigger.

Thank you, Cat. I think so, too.
Here's another pic.

You know, we aren't exactly certain how old she is. She has already been through two heats, surprisingly enough. Cats don't generally go into heat until they are at least six months old, so we are wondering if she suffered malnutrition enough that it compromised her size.
We'll get her spayed next month, the vet can give us a more accurate picture of her age. But she certainly is a lovely baby.
She chose me. I don't think Jonesey would mind.
