Jon Stewart vs. Tucker Carlson: The rematch.

I blame the education system, shereads.

I don't regard media being as bad as it is and the fact that half the population is illiterate, functionally or actually, as unrelated phenomena.

No argument there, Rob. We both know that commercial television increasingly panders to the lowest common denominator. You're addressing why that target is so low. I'm suggesting, with tongue partially in cheek, that technology has assisted the dumbing down of the medium. The TV remote made it easy to indulge one's short attention span; Tivo and other devices that measure viewership moment-by-moment have taken the guesswork out of the ratings game. Instead of asking those mysterious "Nielson families" to be honest about how much time they spend watching Dukes of Hazard reruns, it's now possible for broadcasters to pinpoint the exact moment when Joe Doe lost interest in Hamlet and decided to check out Daisy Duke's butt.

That's not necesssarily a bad thing, you know. By identifying the flaws in low-rated programs and taking some cues from shows that make money, it should be possible to accommodate high-brow cultural elitists without making Bubba tune out. Is there any reason why Ophelia can't wear hotpants?

You are correct, Sarahh, dear. This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. The mainstream news media allows the administration not only to tell lies; they let them tell bad, easily refutable lies!

Jon Stewart and Co. refudiates the lies with regularity. Since he presents actual clips of the lying motherfuckers without editorial comment, the result is an administration with their pants down on Comedy Central.

Why the hell doesn't ABC or CBS or NBC do the same? They all have access to the same clips. Fox, of course, is leading the charge on behalf of the White House, so you could never expect them to tell any semblance of the truth.

Let's have a thread going tomorrow evening during the show.

It'll be a blast!

True.

And why hasn’t any network picked up on The Complete Works of Shakespeare: Unabridged, an off-broadway version of The Bard where even the parts that weren’t played to the pits are played to the pits.

[Example]

[The goofiest of the three man troop has mistaken the definition of moor]

Goofy One: We left Adam on his own to research this play. Apparently, he looked up "moor" in the dictionary and thought it was where you tie up boats.

The Goofiest: (Pointing to dictionary) That's what it told me it is, man!

Goofy Two:
Which, in the course of this context is completely ridiculous, because, you see, in the 16th Century, the word moor referred to a black person.

[The Goofiest one looks at both of them]

The Goofiest: I feel like such a dork.

Goofy Two: Yeah, well, go with the feeling.

It is somewhat understandable. As they use up 37 Shakespearian plays in only 2 hours, it might be rather hard on the writers.

Bumped -

Well, we watched Stewart, and then caught the last half hour of Carlson.

I don't think The Daily Show has anything to worry about.

Okay, was I the only one taken in?

I WAS taken in!

At least I am glad I posted the whole article.

On and off all day I have been trying to figure out how to see the Stewart -Carlson Rematch.

Well! I have my answer, dammit!

You go back and read the article. Does that sound to you like they are meeting in person? It does to me.

It probably was John Maynard’s use of the term, mano a mano.

How can one go hand to hand if you don’t meet? But I could not find any other information.

Finally, I contacted an authority, and got back an answer (not very politely, either, for an authority)

It is their SHOWS which are going hand to hand, one show versus the other, mano a mano.

All they NEEDED to say is that Carlson’s show is moving to the same timeslot that Jon Stewart’s show is in. The NEWS in the story is only about Carlson’s show, Stewart’s show is unaffected.

Only 400,000 watch Carlson, while 1.4 million watch Stewart, and not even Tucker Carlson can imagine that he will take viewers away from The Daly Show.

I believe that’s called burying your lead , but this was done on purpose. It should have been about “The Situation With Tucker Carlson" and left Stewart out of it.

At least that answers my question: why would Carlson agree to another public humiliation, considering how much he lost after the last one?

Damnation! Heck! Toe Jam! Snot!

Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff!

Bring me the head of John Maynard!
