John's Rustic Romper Room

Good morning everyone.

Good morning!

Its a cold rainy day here in my little part of texas. Plans are to stay inside and start holiday cooking.. cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes will be cooked ahead for thursday's big munchout.. lol. I work that morning so the plan is to precook as much of the meal as possible. :D
When shopping my favorite bulk food barrel store I got the needed ingredients for 'junk' cookies so may also warm the house up with the sweet aroma of cookie baking on my weekend..

Wonderful, Sunbunny, I love it when a house smells like cookies.

The weather is cold and rainy/snowy here too. Temp is just around 0°.

It's still chilly here, and I've gotten through another long Monday. Only have 3 or 4 more left this semester, things are winding down, which means it's going to get rough around here for a while.

Wish me luck!

Good luck John! You got it - you will do great.
Sunbunny love the smells of the season when the home starts to smell of good food!
Dutchrain - stay under the covers! It's cold!
I think that I will start cooking tomorrow. Got lots of pies to be done. Pecan pumpkin apple and a pumpkin roll. Should be fun.

Have fun all!

Hi John,

Sorry to have missed you lately, just wanted to wish you well on all the
up-coming things aiming your way, knowing you will handle them with the
ease and grace you handle all you do....

Do hope you and your family enjoy the warmth of the holiday, the blessings sharing with family brings. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your friends here in the Romper Room!
k.

the cooking commenced here last night.. pecan pie and cranberry sauce are both in the frig, turkey soaking in the brine. I will do sweet potatoes tonight so they will just need to be reheated tomorrow. I work a full shift but get to start at 5am so will be home in plenty of time to slip the turkey into the oven.

I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving! May your hearts be filled with love and your homes with family and friends.:kiss:

I know a full shift is very long, but why don't you prepare the turkey tonight (fill) and season it tomorrow morning and put it in the oven before you leave?

Just put the heat at 80°C or 176°F and turn it up to really hot about half an hour before you serve it. Slow cooking, it will be succulent, juicy, tasty, simply wonderful. I have had turkeys (and geese) in the oven up to eight hours that way and they were absolutely ... see above.

John, the end is nearing.

Wish you all a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy day before Thanksgiving everyone!! Only one class today, although it's for a test, then home to begin prep for tomorrow. Guess I'll be helping with the pie baking, getting the turkey ready, and probably doing some other goodies along the way.

What time is everyone eating? We do a late dinner, usually around 5pm.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I know you're not all from the US, but Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. I'll be thinking of you all throughout the day and hoping you have a great time with friends and family.

22# turkey is about to go into the oven. Apple, Pecan, & Pumpkin pies are made, 3 loaves of banana bread and I've already snipped off the tips of the green beans. Sweet potatoes were done yesterday and my ham is waiting until later this afternoon before it goes into the oven.

We're expecting about a dozen people to be stopping over and as I said yesterday, we'll be eating dinner between 4:30 - 5:00pm. In the mean time I'll be making ham rolls, deviled eggs, and Mrs. J's world famous stuffed mushrooms. :)

Have a great day everyone!!! :rose:

*smiles* You all have been busy!

I hope you aren't too tired to enjoy your meal and the company!

I had a wonderful day yesterday and definitely set too much.

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday. I'm staying near home, away from aLL stores, and will probably do some work on a paper I have due Monday.

Hi John

My friday has been quite good, thank you, I spring-cleaned the kitchen, I wonder why, since I want to start on the christmas cookies tomorrow.

I managed to do the shopping while the sun was shining, I almost didn't feel it was -4°C.

A bit a lazy day after all the cooking you did yesterday sounds great. Dinner will be leftovers, I suppose?

I'm thinking leftovers for the whole weekend :)

*grins* One christmas we wouldn't have visitors over, and I planned to cook a duck for us, my daughters asked for a turkey since they reckoned that would mean much more leftovers for them for the next week ...

Now that the laundry is finished, I will have fun. Just made batter for crumpets.
I have never had them, but a UK friend sent me an picture of the one he was eating earlier today. It looked yummy ...
