Johnny would have been seventy.

We've always enjoyed his music. We have many CDs ripped to PC, heard several songs this weekend.

Seriously? Best to him. As to all.

Rocky Mountain High is all I can recall. Nothing personal...

Dam, I'm older than I thought I was.

Lots of good memories to go with the music. The best thing that can be said.

Old enough to know who he sang with before striking out on his own?

I used too but the old mind ain't what she used to be. Or was that the old gray mare?

My mind keeps saying "New Christi Minstrels" but I think that was Kenny Rogers.

You're close. John's uncle, Dave Deutschendorf sang with "New Christi Minstrels". John took Chad Mitchell's place when Chad left "Chad Mitchell Trio" and it became just "The Mitchell Trio".

My mind failed me because over time, the 'something trio' kept coming up Kingston Trio. Saved by Wikipedia.

BTW, Jack (AirRichard) here using Sandy's login.

He was a taste of something warm and friendly on the radio, when everything else was getting hard and heavy. I can remember so many of his songs that touched me in ways, other songs couldn't.
I'm Sorry, Calypso, Took Two Shots, Rocky Mountain High, are all still faves of mine.

I was a big fan of his back in the early seventies. Then I found out about his very unhappy personal life, the wife-beating, and so on. I realized that a lot of his message was coming out of his personal pain.

I only wish now that he had lived to outgrow all that and find peace. He had an extraordinary gift for music, and I don't think that would have diminished over the years.
