His team said he did well given the delays and errors in the c.c's; the host company blames him for not rehearsing enough.

Now if any of you are as familiar with c.c's as i am (they're used on our tvs and on millions of other Americans' tvs where hearing loss is common) and can hear what's being spoken versus what appears on the captions, you'll KNOW it's filled with errors and gaps/delays. I didn't see the debate, but if he was relying on the captions for all his information then i fully appreciate the difficulties that may have presented themselves.

When i'm watching/listening to a programme (news/movie/documentary what have you), i am frequently thrown by what appears on the captions as it often bears little to no resemblance to the spoken words. I don't think people unfamiliar with this will be able to make a clear judgement of how Fetterman managed, as they probably think the captions are an almost instantaneous and mirror representation of the dialogue. I wish this would be brought up more in discussions about how well or poorly people believe he performed on the night of the debate.

I think it's all sort of irrelevant. This is the same case as the Hershel Walker one in Georgia. Different circumstances but essentially the same case. It's about what party is going to hold the seat given the razor-thin margins on U.S. Senate control. Who to vote for in both cases depends on which party you want in the majority in the U.S. Senate. Whether they can do the job is of lesser consequence at this point. In Walker's case, all the Republicans want is someone who will take Republican direction on voting and keep quiet otherwise. Walker meets those requirements. In Fetterman's case, they most likely will have a Democratic governor to fill the slot later if Fetterman can't.

It would have been stunning and brave if he had a sign language interpreter sign his debate and made the rest of us read the closed captioning. The backlash for complaining about that, even Ye would have steered clear.

Realpolitik and correct.

^^^ Yes.

In Fettermans case the debate was a no win. He had a tight time limit in listening, reading, processing and responding. A tough ask given his place in his recovery.

Meanwhile, an actual Dr, fucking Dr Oz, says he’s against abortion period, full stop. What kind of doctor doesn’t have options for rape and incest among other things. He’s an asshole.
