So there's this new 'Reality' TV show coming out called Joe Millionaire. This guy wines and dines a whole bunch of women, who think that he's got $50,000,000 dollars. And in the end, they weed out all of the ones he doesn't like, and there's one left. The one who is supposedly perfect for him, his choice. And then they reveal the fact that he's not a millionaire. And the whole point of this show is to see whether she stays with him after it's revealed that he's not rich.

If she doesn't stay with him, she looks shallow and like a gold-digger.

But did anyone else consider this angle: Chick A falls for Joe. She really likes him, with or without the money, but then she finds out he doesn't have any. Maybe she doesn't give a damn about the money, but is really super pissed that she's been lied to the entire time she's known Joe.

I mean, if I found out that some guy I was genuinely interested in didn't have the money that I thought he had, because of my own assumption, I might be disappointed a little, but I'd still be interested in him, because his personality is what I would have fallen for (the money might have just been a perk). But if I'd fallen for someone, and it turned out that he'd LIED to me for the entire time he'd known me, I'd be pretty pissed, and the relationship would end because I couldn't be with someone who is able to lie like that.

Well, that just falls under the category of 'mind games', and add to that the humiliation of being lied to on national TV...it's fucking dirty pool, if you ask me!

Well, I think the situation here is a bit different. He is not the one specifically doing the lying. It's a set up for a show, not an individual fabricating stories for his own benefit. It is probably going to be humiliating for these women to find out they've been set up, but they can't place the whole blame on the guy.

I'm not sure but aren't BOTH sides of this Joe Millionaire deal kinda slimey?

And the ultimate slime in this is Fox for coming up with this as a "reality" TV show. Such a shame for a network that gave us great comedies like The Simpsons too.

I don't think any of the parties involved have any claim to sympathy if they get hurt.

Scenario: Pretty woman enters a scenario to be put in a popularity contest with 19 other women. After 3 months or so if the man selects her they will be married.

Yeah...the bonds of trust will be shattered when the lady learns his paycheck...

I laugh at em all and worry about the problems of "real" marriages....

She's meeting the guy on TV, though. Doesn't that add a bit of weirdness to the situation anyhow? How honest do you think that guy's really going to be with all of the world watching his every move? There are plenty of other things she will not know about him until the cameras are all gone.

I find all that reality crap to be expoitative, and degrading...not to the people on the show, but degrading to me if i'm stupid enough to watch!!

i thought it was a joke when i saw it on tv b/c Mad Tv was on and i assume it was just part of the show until i looked. Its going to be who wants to be a millionare all over again.

I am a little shocked at fox for this show. I for one will not be watching it. I would be so mad if I was on the show. I think the women wo go on these shows are asking to be let down and mad to look bad no matter what but this is just too much.
