Do you have a peice of jewelry that has special meaning to you? I have four pieces, two that are worn and two that aren't.

The first for me is my Bike Ring. You've heard about this so I won't get into it again.

The second is a Broken Coin Medalion my wife gave me when we were going out together. It's nothing fancy, in fact it's kind of cheap looking being made of copper. I was wearing this when I realized that she was the one I loved. (Long story.) I no longer wear this but it is hanging in my wifes jewelry box alongside hers.

The third, also no longer worn, is a ring with the family crest on it. It's big, it's fancy and it's nothing I would ever truly wear but it does have a lot of history.

The fourth is what looks at first like a simple silver bracelet. In fact it is a six strand braid that has been in my family since the late middle ages. It has been handed down to the first male in each generation, and yes I do wear it.

My wife has a ring created by my father and myself. We call it a family ring. It is a Blue Saphire in a gold flower mount. We made several of them and call them the family ring. They have been given to my mother, my sister, my nieces, my brothers wife, my wife and one was buried with Mikki. (I still have the mold for the ring so more can be made.) Of those made so far only three are still in the family. The ones worn by my mother, my wife and one of my nieces. The rest have been pawned. (Other than the one buried with Mikki of course.)

My wife also has a Locket that even don't touch. This is a locket that has been passed down through my mothers side of the family for as many generations as my bracelet. She was given this by my mother when we were first married as part of the wedding promise. (Something old.) Most of the time it resides in our safe and is only taken out for special occasions.

How about you? Do you have a piece that means something special to you?

My Uncle Grant (my father's oldest of three brothers) gave me a ring when I was seven years old. It's silver and has a simple zig-zag pattern on it. It was too big to wear on my finger when it was given to me, so I wore it on a military chain as a necklace until I was in my mid-teens.

I only take it off when I shower (soap easily gets stuck in the pattern). It'll be thirty years this summer that I was given the ring. Over the years, it has become the only item to remain with me (except for a particular and very personal object which I won't mention) and has become my personal symbol of endurance.

Two incredibly unique bracelets that she made for me. I feel her so much closer to me when I wear it. I wear them all the time, except when I'm taking pictures. (but I don't wear any jewelery then)

There are other pieces, too. I have quite a few with special meaning.

All my jewelry has special meaning since I only wear (and own) jewelry that I make. So, my jewelry tends to reflect how I was feeling at the time that I made it.

I still have my grandfather's old Waltham watch. I used to wear it but it now stays safely in the box. I technically still have my old wedding ring also. Dang platinum is way softer than you would think. That thing was bent up just about from the first day I put it on!

I have a couple...

A cat ring with purple eyes..it was given to my when I was 5 years old by the first person to ask me to marry him. Also a pendant he later gave to me that matches the ring.

A St. Christopher medallion my mother found and gave to me before I left on my work experience abroad trip when I was 17. (No I'm not catholic nor is she but someone told her he was the patron saint of travelers and she thought it would help keep me safe.) I still take it on most trips with me.

A zodiac necklace that was given to me by a special friend and often when I am scared or really going through a bad time I'll hold it to find a moment of peace.

Our original wedding rings. Cheap gold plated rings because we couldn't afford anything else. 2 for $11.99 kind of thing. They're in a box.

A Tiffanys gold and silver twisted rope necklace. I won a contest at my work and went and bought myself the necklace and my mother and mother-in-law a matching bracelet. I don't wear it often as there isn't that many places to wear something like that.
