okay, so i have a bit of a quandry and i am requesting the assistance of anyone who knows a lot about jazz.

so there's this girl, and i like her. a lot. and she's way into jazz. so i thought for a christmas present i could burn her a cd with a bunch of really kickass jazz tracks. problem is, i don't know a whole lot about jazz except for the big names and popular songs. i'm not looking to impress her with my knowledge, that would be phony and i could never pull it off, but i would like to be able to put some songs she's not likely to have heard before on the cd.

so... suggestions?

Hi lexie.

jazz is a broad musical term encompassing some diverse styles. One may like bepob but dislike swing, etc. I know i am a very picky jazz listener.

This doesnt help you but perhaps you can take a look at some fo what she is listening to and that will give you a jumping off point for your mix.

Otherwise I suggest larges doses of sonny sharrock.

mouse hit the nail right on the head.

Jazz is a huge umbrella of different types of music. What one person likes in jazz, another does not.

If you can sneak a peek at some of the artists she likes, that'd give me a huge hint as to what you can put together for her.

I'd be more than happy to help you out. Drop me a PM with the info you have or get and let's get to work. We can put together something that'll make her really happy. :)

I listen to a jazz station at work almost everyday, but I probably know less than the average Ralph. Ella Fitzgerald has a live recording of song addressing Mr. Paganini(sp) that shows off her killer voice. I've only heard it once - the live recording - and it was a work stopper.

hi foxy lady

señor mouse:

I got a mp3 file that has Ella singing Blue Skies where she does about 3 minutes where all the other musicans go away and she sings nonsence words just showing off her marvelious voice.

I think that it came from Morphus.

I love listening to Dave Brubek ... Take Five is a favorite
