Not your typical Lit fodder but nonetheless here it is:

Those in the UK may already be familiar with the news item regarding two brothers from NE England who subjected a dog to what the RSPCA described as the worst animal abuse they had ever seen. The brothers filmed it on their mobile phones and it was only by chance that a member of the public found a discarded memory card in a supermarket, viewed the contents and recognised the abusers.

If you can stomach it you can see some of the abuse via this link

What sentence did they get? A 21 week prison sentence, suspended for two years, six months tagged curfew between 8pm and 6am, and a lifetime ban from keeping animals.

There is an online petition to review the lenient sentences, which has reached almost 400,000 signatures, see Here

I think you're being lenient as well.
If it was up to me, they'd be six feet under.

How many animal abusers become serial killers. Two years in jail is better sentence. Send out a message to others. Not that there kind think about such things as consequences of their actions.

Do dogs have constitutional rights?

Baby killers are allowed to horrendously torture and intentionally murder totally innocent and completely defenseless human babies because the killers claim they're not human and have no constitutional rights at all.

But abusing a canine in any way at all is a capital offense to them.

First thing's first - this is in the UK, where there's no constitution to speak of, let alone the American Constitution.

Second, if you want to rile people up, violence against animals, especially domestic animals, does the trick.

Finally, I'm pretty sure no one likes or encourages abortion; it's tolerated as a necessity and a holding that a woman's right trumps that of an unborn and potentially unviable child's when the two are in conflict.

There is a Constitution. It just isn't a single document like the American one.

There are laws in England about cruelty to animals, and a well-funded organisation, the RSPCA, to gather evidence and start prosecutions, if necessary on their own.

But the RSPCA is criticised for spending too much money prosecuting people for animal cruelty when the reality was neglect, or vulnerable people not understanding how to treat animals.

IF the RSPCA stuck to cases like this one, as they used to do, then they would get more public support.
