Jade's wedding thread.

I havent read the whole thread but Jade, if you are doing a red dress I would go with the white boquet(sp). Kind of make them a focal point against the dark dress.

I know where you are comming from, Im trying to plan one of these shindigs too.

Congrats and the garnet will look great with a deep red dress.

There are other dark colors, plum maybe or some other purple variation. Plum would also match the red of your dress.

Actually a new trend is to have the bridesmaids wear their own "little black dresses" and shoes and then coordinate them with flowers (though jade is chosing to not outfit them with flowers). WIN-WIN-WIN

They are comfortable and think they look good
No one had to shell out for an outfit no one will ever wear again
They all matched reasonably well and dont really compete with the bride for eye-catching.

At my second wedding I told my one attendant to wear whatever dress she wanted.

It was a pretty small wedding.

It was great, inexpensive and mostly, exactly what we wanted.
 
if we keep at it at this pace we are gonna have Jades wedding all planned yet tonight. LOL

Instead of ordering thank you notes, purchase inexpensive and colorful postcards while on your honeymoon to use as thank you cards. Not only will the recipients be touched by the personal gesture, but you'll also save money on the cost of stationery and postage.
 
Invites and thank you at wall mart for, in the neighborhood, of 40 count for 14 bucks.

Though I do like the idea of thank you destination post cards

I actually did something similar to this for my "save-the-date"
You can design whatever you want on a business card, print it off on your computer and then stick it on a business card magnet which they sell at office supply stores...my grandparents still have my save-the-date on their refrigerator....I just got one for the wedding coming up in December too.

Frugal Party Favors
I wanted to share some nice frugal party favor ideas that I have seen at friends' weddings. One friend recieved a magnet momento that was part of a wedding package. It was a little generic drawing of a bride and a groom that was done in the wedding colors and matching hair color for the couple. At the bottom, the wedding couple's name and wedding date were inscribed. The little picture was then laminated and given a magnetic backing. She decided to make them herself for a fraction of the cost.

I think what we'll do is have wrist-corsages for the bridesmaids, and bouteniers for the guys.

Simple, elegant... and yes, my girls can wear whatever they want.
 
Guys, this is fricking awesome. I'm so thrilled with your help... I yacked with the owner of the backyard we'll be using, today. She's so excited- her house is a heritage house, and the yard is huge, and gorgeous. She's never had a wedding there, before. If this keeps up, I'm considering having the ceremony there. Might be nice.

I am sure you have already been given plenty of advices, but I'm adding my 2 yen ... because it is just too fun to enjoy a wedding planning!

When I got married, I had my sister taking pictures (she had just finished some photography classes), but also told all my fried to feel free to take as many picture as they wanted and to give me the films (pre-digital era ...lol).
It took me almost a year to get all the picture developed, printed, screened and put in an album but I am really happy with the result. Just make sure to make a list of the Must Have pictures, like with your family, with the in-laws, you and your girl frieds, you and your uncle/aunt/cousin and so on. And to have enough memory/film/batteries.

And I love your idea of a dark-red dress and to have the wedding outside.

I had so much fun at my wedding that as soon as it was over ... I wanted to get married all over again! LOL

Was hoping to do a 10th anniversary re-wedding in Vegas ... but guess it will be for the 15th or 20th anniversary, as the 10th anniversary has passed us by ...

I'm excited about it.. and we're considering having a friend do the photography (we'd have to payher, but it may still be cheaper than the other options we've looked at), and she's amazingly gifted.
 
Dress Shopping

This may sound weird but....

When you go dress shopping make sure to wear some makeup.
(I hardly ever do unless for a special occasion....can look a bit washed out when trying on dresses)

Also bring something to pin your hair up so you can see what the dress would look like with hair up or left down.

Some places don't allow this, but try and bring a camera and have someone snap a shot of you in the dress (another reason to wear makeup).

Oh, and try not to have too many people tag along with the shopping....too many conflicting opinions; its yours that matters.

The two moms and one of the bridesmaids will be there... and I always wear makeup- I'm too blotchy without it.

I'm really looking forward to it!

If there is a cooking school nearby, use them for your food. It's very cheap, maybe even get a student from college studying photography. Whatever you decide I wish you good luck and send best wishes to you and your fiancé.
