Food and drink: Big family barbeque in a friend's backyard. My father in law, brother in law, and mom's boyfriend will be manning the barbeques. There will be a cash bar, though wine will be provided for the toasts.

When I go to a big reception I bring money for tip and in case its a cash bar. When I go to a backyard wedding I am not expecting a cash bar at all.

If its a BBQ why not just have some coolers in the backyard. One with soda/water, one with beer, another with bottle of "girly" drinks (the mojito one is really good)

I guess it all depends on how much of a drinking family you guys have. If they aren't boozehounds like my family, you may even be able to stick to the wine on the tables and just offer soda/water/lemonade

This was the year of weddings for me, I've been to 4 since June and still have one more to go to on Dec 1st.

One of them was a backyard wedding and it was the one I enjoyed the most because it was small and personal (this was the one with the coolers in the backyard). They had a tent covering the patio where the tables were set up. Each table had a little bud vase on it with a few roses in it. It was really pretty.

I agree about the cash bar. It would be weird for a backyard reception. Wine doesn't even go with bbq, and I'm a wine drinker. You could just do a mix of beers, and maybe cider or something for the girly girls. You could also do cava or prosecco instead of champagne. It's cheaper, and excellent.

I agree with the backyard wedding and no cash bar- and I think the coolers with drinks in them is a great idea.

I am going to stick to wine- the family is very European, and any and all meals we have together, includes wine.

Don't forget if you are having trouble finding a dress that you like, there is always the option of a seamstress. For my wedding, we found out the bridesmaid dresses weren't coming in 1 month before the big day.

While we were at the store looking for fabric for the flower girl dresses there was a woman there who was a dressmaker basically. We picked out a pattern and some fabric right there. The girls just had to go to her home to get fitted a couple times, but it was nice being able to pick the exact material and style of dress that you wanted.

Also, with it being outdoors, you may want to think about whether or not you want your dress to have a train or not. With a train it can always be bustled, but sometimes it can be a pain.

Because of the way I'm built, the slinky cocktail dress doesn't suit me.

I'm a size 24/26, and most of that weight is in my ass and boobs. My waist is a good 14" smaller than my hips and butt, and I have a 44DDD cup size.

Looks like my bridesmaids, mom, and m-i-l will be dress shopping next weekend. I'm so excited!!

We've got the friend's backyard for the reception confirmed... and if push came to shove, the friend said she'd be happy to have the wedding there as well.

I will be getting married barefoot, with mendhi all over my feet... I want the dress to be long enough to hide that fact for most of the wedding.

Here's a mistake that a lot of brides on a budget make. They try to do a formal, ballroom type wedding, in a setting that just calls for it. I totally get that you want drama. But you kind of need to figure out an angle that works.

Just my two cents, but you need rich colors to go with the deep red you are attracted to. I don't think you want to go with white (for flowers or invitations) or yellow. Yellow goes with tomato red, casual red tulips, or maybe garden roses. But not what you want. Stick with ivory, gold, etc. - and I would really go with the goth in the garden theme - it fits the backyard/outdoor requirement, and it allows for the drama.

Also, because you've got this outdoor element, I think rougher, more natural textures will work better for invitations, and the flowers too.

I love dramatic, but not gothic... I want something more polished than the gothic idea shown in that picture.

I'm considering having about five anthuriums bound together as my bouquet. I love Anthuriums, and they're so unusual.

Is anthurium grown locally or are they considered "exotic"? Make sure to check with your florist about what will be in season and reasonably priced and what is going to take a pretty penny to get in.

Also, my florist recommended waiting on choosing flowers until I had an actual swatch of fabric for the bridesmaid dresses and bridal gown (especially if its not white/ivory/natural)

Thank you. I'm sitting here, boggled at the cost of what my brother's paying his photographers for his wedding.

His fiancee just forwarded the info with the pricing plans, and I'm like "um... that's about 50% of what I want to pay for the whole wedding!" Granted, they've invited 125 people to their wedding, and we're having a maximum of 45.

There are people who know how to do things inexpensively and people who DON'T. Whoever is planning that wedding is probably a "don't."

Also, there are photogs that are expensive and those that are not. Each group has a HUGE mix of talent and experience.

You can be waaaay smarter that that, I'm sure!
