Look out, Og - I'm finally starting to offer you some competition in the "most hated story" genre. :D I've managed to break the 4.0 barrier on the way down in quite a hard plummet (beware falling horse!) - the latest is picking up votes at a remarkable pace (it has 45 despite only debuting today), but is now at a 3.4 and I would guess falling.

The PC's are really the most wonderful thing. The range staggers me. I've got everything from "Totally golden" and "Well done, Shang!" (thanks very much Rob, you are too kind) to "this is stupid ... REALLY stupid" and "That was the biggest load of shit I have ever read, why the hell would you waste your time even typing that crap. Congratulations you are the biggest LOSER!" I particularly like the inherently baffled honesty of "ummm ... This is either brilliant or crap but I can't tell." *laugh*

It's quite intriguing to me; I've never had such a diverse range of reactions to a story, although I did guess that this one might draw them. "Erotic Couplings" was a poor match, but eh ... it wasn't an easy fit anywhere. If only Lit had an "experimental fiction" category. But it's nice to see that people at least feel strongly about it. ;)

I should be grateful, really, for even the flame PC's. After all, if I hadn't seen this, I certainly never would have thought to check for letters:

THIS is an "E"?

I guess it really doesn't mean a lot, does it?

Quite possibly not, but it's awfully kind of you to bring it to my notice, Anonymous in Kentucky. :)

LOL.

I'm getting a similar reaction (vote-wise, anyway) to my latest. Of course, it doesn't have an "E" ... but it's obvious that the readers aren't "getting it."

What's up withthe comments on that one? Sometimes there are none, other times a whole bunch and sometimes only one comment is displayed.

This the Fibonacci story? I guess I have to sit down and read it then ;)

Congrats on the "E"!

You're so lucky!!!

Not about the ratings... just everything else.

I'm going to have to do some research...

I want to know the best way to wrangle those trolls!!

*pokes the Iron Horse* Any pointers?

For you, Shanglan, a Surrealist Compliment

Your pharyngeal hair tickles the divine underbelly of my terrestrial erector set with saponifying liquors.

and another, because I can

If you behave there will be cake for the miscreants we call your brothers.

The French Foreign Legion could not match the lucid beauty of your toenails!

I can't help it - this is so cute!

this is the most confusin story i had eva read!!!!

:D

Thanks, AH'ers, for the many PC's that have posted since I began this thread. I am much obliged and very grateful. :) And for the record, I think Liar is completely right on the issue of length - there's no way I would want to write a novel like that. Joyce is brilliant, but there's a reason why the world as a whole didn't decide to all write in the style of Ulysses from that point forward. ;)

Right now, there are none. A few minutes ago there were two or three when I left my PC, along with a five vote. The last time I clicked on Shang's story list, it wasn't even there. I know Manu is tinkering with the innards of the mother ship, but this is creepy.

And Shang, you done did good. That's what I said in my PC. Honest. Well, that and the implication you watch a lot of Monk on TV and may have intimate knowledge of folks with OCD.

Rumple Foreskin

Thank you very much for the vote and PC, Rumple. :)

May I decline to answer on the grounds that my response may tend to incriminate me?

one really can't be expected to undertand the ramblings of a horse anyway. That they react at all is a good thing when you're experimenting!

Yes! They're the fools ... they're reading a story written by a horse. Of course it's silly.

Four warned is four armed (or legged) ;) I PC'd.

Jealous. Wish someone would think my crap could be brilliant, just not sure. Mine is always strictly the case of one or the other.

PS :nana: for such a great response regardless

Nobody liked Pied Piper either, when I posted it on Lit... <shrug>

I forget, sometimes, on the AH that we represent a minoroty of Lit readers here in the forum....

but you know it was good... really quite phenomenally so... ;)

Just wait, my four footed friend...

Low scores early on do not mean that you can sink to the depths matching Og.

Many of the low votes will be swept from your story in the first trawl.

When you have a story that stays below 3.00 for years - then you will be competing for my laurel of poison ivy.

Congratulations on the deserved E and for the other Es you have.

Og

I have 10 reviews, all below a 4, most below a 3, and one below a 2! And most have only 1-2 votes...

It's funny you should mention that. I often wonder where my talents and problems come from. I'm blaming Joyce. ;) I have reason to though. My grandmother, mom's side, is a Joyce, born in Ireland, and is part of the same line of Joyce's as James Joyce. :) *My small claim to fame.

Chapter 6 of Falling is a 3.75. Lowest rating I've had ever, and I find it kind of amusing.

The title of that chapter is "Crucify."

My comment didn't stick. I'm rather upset, as it was very flattering for the horise. Maybe I can re-create it here:

You sick little monkey. How dare you expose your digits like that. You're talents are befitting of an ass. Hide your head in shame. Shame!

Okay, it was nothing like that. Seriously Shanglan, since it may never re-post, I thought your story was magnificent. The last line ties it all together and the realistic nature of your character makes the hinderance stand out all the much more, but it does not overshadow the personality of your main character. I can understand how hard such a thing is to do, and you did it. I can very easily understand the inner minds of such a man. It screams more autism to me than OCD, but I can see a mixture of both, which would not be uncommon. Often times individuals tend to shy away or even shun those with such disorders, for fear of understanding or lack of caring. The best parts are the ones where the character thinks he has offended, only to be reassured that he has not. People often allieanate the ones they love because they think falsly that they have hurt them. I'm glad you brought this piece out to show what it's really like being trapped inside the mind. It is much deserved of the E.

At the risk of taking your limelight, I can beat that.

My poem 'She' is floundering with a wonderful 2.67. :D :nana: :D

Colly, on the other hand (as if we're surprised), has the top rated story on the whole site.

Her novella, The spy wore Petticoats, is currently sitting highest with a perfect score of '5', from 51 voters.

Well done Colly. Fantastic work.

Hey Mat,
Would you like me to spoil that by rounding up a few friends and dotting in several 'fives'.
No me neither, why spoil such an achievement. As for Colly, the only person who seems unsure about her talent is Colly herself, or is it her natural modesty?
