Well all, starting tomorrow morning I'll be offline for awhile due to the storm. I'm in Mobile and we're directly in line for the hit at this time. My home care patient wasn't able to get a room in one of the local facilities so I'm going to be there at her house as the nurse for the next few days.
Loaded in the car is 3 cases of water, propane stove with two tanks, canned fruit, canned meat, flashlights with spare batteries, radio with spare batteries, 4 days of clothes, blankets, a pillow, fresh fruit and a case of sodas.
Windows on the apartment are taped and ready. They don't allow us to use plywood. I'm on the 2nd floor so hopefully I won't lose the roof while I'm gone. I'm going to wrap the computer in plastic and put it in a safe place, hopefully, until I return. Both bathtubs are filled with water and ready to go if no water is available. The camera is also ready.
Hopefully I'll get power back to finish up the Rainy Day story and get it in for the deadline.
My Mom and sisters have evacuated so they'll all be fine.
I really wish they'd start trying out the new powder to reduce the strength of these storms. Maybe in the near future we'll have that to protect us. Until then, we'll deal with it.
Everyone take care if I don't see you for awhile after the morning. You're all great folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hold on tight and take care, LDW.

We'll keep Lit going while you're gone.

;)

Think dry thoughts, LDW. ;)

Take care of yourself & your own. (and everyone else's too, for that matter, when possible)

Thank you all for the well wishes. I've been on the phone with the agency I work for and I've been pulled back to show up by noon. The aide for the storm is already there and they want her to leave for 4 hours so they don't have to pay too much OT.

This really bothers me. I'm sorry if I'm rambling, but as a nurse the patient comes first. To corporate America it seems the cost comes first. They want us to show up when the tropical winds are suppose to be hitting. They want the aide to leave and come back 4 hrs later so they can cut the OT.

Nothing about this makes sense. The aide is there now and prepared to stay. I was to be there in the morning. Now, the aide is to leave for 4 hrs and I am not to show up by noon. Our patient suffers from Altzheimers. These changes are only going to make her anxious since those that are coming for 4 hrs she has never met.

When will the home health industry learn? Right now, to me, it seems all they are after is profit. I'd work the 4 hrs for free. I've taken care of this lady and her husband for months.

The legal guardians have given her two gallons of water. The food they have given is frozen. The generator isn't working. My car is loaded with water and food. I can't believe people like this! Those who do a room prayer when they show up. Those who speak the word and do what I consider is minimum treatment.

They told me today if she got hot to drive her over and dunk her in their pool to cool off. That's going to be fun and interesting to do in winds like this storm is packing.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I'm frustrated. This is going to be an interesting week I can see. Not one I would expect. I guess I suspect corporate and family support. There doesn't seem to be any.

Even focusing only on the money, you'd think they'd realize the potential liability issues that could develop if (a) the patient has a bad incident due to the unfamiliar staff and unexpected shift changes; and/or (b) one of the nurses is injured -- or worse -- because they're out in the storm unnecessarily.

I'd think a few hours overtime would be money well spent -- if only from an insurance perspective. (Of course, from a staff and consumer care perspective, it's a MUST.)

Good luck to ya.

Thank God I got to speak to you yesterday to know you're safe.

Just keep warm, wrapped and tape those damn windows!!!!!!

Love you baby xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxx
