Some employees filed a lawsuit demanding that any terminations be rescinded because Twitter failed to comply with the 60 day notice requirement. Last I heard the layoffs came with 60 days severance (ie; the employees paycheck for 60 days) which is the legal equivalent of 60 days notice.Just heard from my colleagues in the biz that the Curators at Twitter have been let go.
It was a narcissistic deal. And it worked for what he wanted. The man has no reason to care about money...loss or gainI haven't heard a single person say this was a smart financial deal for Musk. It sounds like it was all ego based which is a recipe for failure.
How quaint. The thing important here is not that Elon fucked them over by letting them go....it's that he did so without adhering to the employer.protections that exist, which will probably cost him millions more - for no reason. He could've easily just given them their lawful notice and saved all that money.Thoughts and prayers for Twitter engineers who have gotten pink slips. We all know how difficult it is for software engineers to find work in Silicon Valley. The job market is saturated with out of work people who possess expertise in R programming, distributed computing, data integration, advanced analytics and related fields. It could take up to 15 minutes to find a new job.![]()
They probably will. But the thing is, the actual value of was the verification, that's now dropped.
A real example. A guy went volunteering to fight in Ukraine. Had a Twitter account, started posting there, got huge following for the frontline updates. Joined up with one of the donations drives. There was an impersonation attempt or two even before that, but with the donations the real shit started with the scammers pretending to be him. Solution was a campaign to get him the verification badge, in expedited order. Afterwards, the problems and attacks ended.
That's what's the badge is/was about.
A badge someone paid $8 without ID verification is absolutely worthless.
Elon just made the Right's entire gripe about Twitter totally valid. Good for them.
The latest bright idea from Musk and his allies on Capitol Hill is to threaten the companies who have stopped advertising on Twitter. On top of that seeming like a bad idea if your goal is to come across as the sort of well-run business where someone might want to advertise, it's an interesting look from the purported champions of "freedom." So a belief in the free market now requires Republicans to demand companies advertise on their preferred social network?

There's a saying in the NFL - if you have 2 "starting" QBs, you have none.
