How did you know when it's really love and not a crush or an infatuation?.
When he/she would/wouldn't leave their partner?
They change their appetites for you, become a swinger?
Let them go and if they come back to you?

I realized when I noticed that every time I get out of bed at night he lifts the blankets for me when I return to invite me back in to bed with him. Every time. It’s the most gentle, kind, helpful, thing. I fall in love with him again every time he does it.

When they're there for you.

Because words can lie.

This is true. Someone once said to me, believe nothing you hear and only half what you see. Sage advice.

Crush/infatuation/Lust

I think it's a crush, infatuation or lust when you don't really know that person. You fill in the gaps and create a fantasy of who they are. It's on a superficial level and triggered by blasted hormones to make you feel attracted to someone.

I also think it's short term because once you get to know them and see all their faults, it's amazing how quickly those intense feelings simmer down.

I would hope that love was longer term and more sustainable.

I could play this game all day. When the feeling is mutual and lasting. When the relationship exists outside of your imagination. When I’m always happy that it’s him calling. When mundane errands with him are fun. When he won’t let me do the hard things alone. When he comes to the hospital for me. When he takes me to the doctor. When he protects me. Sees me. Hears me. Knows me. And I likewise know him. Hear him. See him. Protect him.

I don’t believe in the “Let it go, it will come back” shit. If You let go, I’m gone. If you want me, you would have held on. If you wanna go, I’m not gonna try to make you stay. Life is too short for games.

Just on the basis of time can the first question be answered.

A crush or an infatuation can be the the first stage of lasting love, but these feelings can also burn hot and fast only to fizzle just as quickly. So I say time spent together is when you know it was love and will remain love.

Note the past tense; … you know it "was" love. You can never truly know if a crush will develop into love.

Love is like fruit, it is born a hope — a blossom opening from a bud, then love matures over time where droughts and storms test it's will to live. When love is ripe it is sweet and nourishing — it is also comforting and very sure.

When their needs are more important than your wants.

But that's also why if someone needs to leave, I willingly let them go.

Yes. Agreed. This is it.
