"Mr Jones, Miss Bancroft has arrived for her appointment." The voice of his secretary said over his desk phone.
Ryan Jones noted the time on the phone, she was a few minutes early, a good sign. He sat pack and took his time to wonder about Sarah Bancroft. Wondered if she was nervous at being called to a very senior executive office. No doubt she would have an idea of why she was called in, but was she nervous that he and not her own boss had chosen to meet with her. He had told Mrs Smith not to forewarn Sarah about the appointment, even though they had discussed it two days ago.
Ryan was not an intimidating man, for a senior executive of the company. One would think he was too young to hold such a position, in his early thirties, but then very few knew his secret. He also did not exude that smugness or intimidating demeanor of the other older executives. Ryan believed in second chances, he believed there was always something behind a staff members poor performance that could be overcome, unless it was blatantly criminal, one could always discuss without need for dismissal.
He looked at the file on the desk in front of him, which he had not even opened or read. He had preferred to get Mrs Smith's, Sarah's supervisor, take on what he should do. She had spoken well of the young lady, saying she had always been polite, prompt and diligent since starting at the company a few months back. She was well liked among her colleagues, another reason Mrs Smith had not wanted to haul her in for a chat herself, she liked the girl and thought she would be too lenient, and she thought a scolding from someone in a very senior position would help guide her to the right path again.
Pressing the button on his phone he spoke softly, well aware that Sarah would hear it over the intercom. "Please show her in."
He stood up and buttoned his perfectly tailored suit that seemed molded to his athletic body. Let's see if she knows why she is here, he thought to himself as he leant against the front of his mahogany desk, to face the visitors chair before it.
Outside the office, the pretty secretary stood, straightened her short mid thigh skirt, and matching blouse, before escorting Sarah to the door. She gave the girl a quick once over and smiled, knowing her boss would be pleasantly surprised, though he might be a little disappointed by her shirt and jeans, although they did look well made and classy, and there was not actual corporate dress code.
"Don't worry, he is not a monster," she said reassuringly. "Mr Jones, always has tea during a meeting, would you like anything?"
