HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

"From ghoulies and ghosties and things that go bump in the night, good Lord deliver us."

Old Scottish Prayer

Happy Halloween everyone!

May your hearts skip some beats this eve, hopefully not all from sugar rushes.

The howling of the cold wind made the branches creak, sending shivers up our spines. The dark moon cast no light to guide our way, as we trekked onward. Creatures flew past us and shrieks of terrifying sounds made our blood run cold.
Still we persevered, the object of our goal within our reach. The last few steps were made with unease and fear running through our bones, almost sending us to flight. With a braveness brought from the depths of our souls, we reached out and touched the shining orb.
The ghostly refrain that rang out, stood us in our tracks. The entrance opened and there it stood, glowering and horrific in its sight.
With a summon of courage we spoke to it,
Trick or Treat!!!

Happy Halloween Everyone

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

So? Give us the details people! What costume are you wearing and what sort of candy did you get?

Enjoy the full moon!

As the witching hour approaches, I wish all Lits a quiet and peaceful night.

Twas a dark and stormy night and the Captain said to the Mate, "tell us a story." and the Mate began his tale:

Chambrey shirt, old jeans, steel toed shoes, hearing protection, tool pocket . . . and a thin coating of sawdust.

Ah. So you're dressed as one of those wood-chipper murderers. :D Very scary!

And what kind of candy did you get?

I gave out 100 sweet tarts and they were all gone by 7 p.m. The trick or treaters are getting much bigger in my neighborhood. Some of them had real beards.

I went in my favorite purple fleece PJs and a green bathrobe and fuzzy slippers. I'm sure I was quite the eyesore but, wow, was that the most comfy Halloween costume I ever wore. lol

And, as usual, no trick or treaters came to my place. Guess I live too far from town for the kiddies to walk. :-(

I just came from an awesome Halloween party. The costumes were great. The guy in the poodle skirt won second prize. I gave him a lot of credit. I think it was the belly dancer that won first prize. All the costumes were great. One was better than the other. Mr. Clean spoke to me. He said he had a product that would remove hair and he wasn't looking at my head. I had to confess that everything on my was neat and tidy. There were fairies, and devils and ballroom dancers and french maids and cheerleaders in drag. People went all out. Nice time. I hope we never grow up.

The Date: Halloween 2009.

The Place: The Saint, a nightclub.

Upon first arrival, it promised to be a raucous night. The Saint and Pegasus are conjoined clubs, sitting along a city block just outside of downtown San Antonio, Texas. Both are widely advertised as "alternative" nightclubs. Openly accepting of the GLBT crowd, in other words, and no funner place in the city is there. I first went to The Saint back in the mid-late 90s to see a good friend in his first ever drag show competition. I love the guy (in a platonic sense), but to be honest, at 6'3" with a linebacker's shoulders, clad in a blue sequined minidress and a dark blonde wig that looked to have come from the set of a Whitesnake video, he was like a cross between Tina Turner and the Predator.

But I digress.

Tonight was Secret's first introduction to the GLBT side of San Antonio. We had a blast. We waited a good twenty minutes in line to get through the front door, which gave us more than enough time to sample the variety of costumes around us. There were a few Jokers and Michael Jacksons (from various eras), but the real costumes which caught our eyes were the homemade ones. One guy had crafted his own Optimus Prime suit using cardboard and styrofoam; another came in the guise of Shiva (the MC at the costume judging ceremony at midnight would later describe him as a "Honda Love God" ). Then there was a golden-skinned Buddha, a bevy of Batman characters from the 80s/90s era, and a veritable host of Egyptian deities.

Secret and I went dressed in our best pirate costumes. With her leather bodice and multi-layered skirt, and my red tunic and black vest, pantaloons and boots, we should have put many of the others to shame if we had arrived early enough to enter the judging. But we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. The drinks came quick and easy, with every bartender overpouring (to Secret's chagrin). We found a corner stage upon which to stake our claim and watch the show. A friend of mine from the restaurant arrived and joined us, providing shots every half hour (his best friend is a manager at the club).

Needless to say, we had a ton of fun. I'm not much for freestyle dancing, but Secret got me into it. A few drinks in her, and she couldn't stop moving. Especially when I slipped my hand under her skirt.

A few interesting observations regarding a GLBT nightclub on Halloween:

1) the line for the men's room is longer than for the women's.

2) there are two classifications of costume: artistic, and how-much-skin-can-you-show-and-still-be-legal. A very few manage both.

3) Secret's observation: "It annoys me that some of these guys walk better in heels than I do."

4) In a "straight" nightclub, the back pocket where most men keep their wallet is where I feel the occasional pat. In a GLBT club, the pats land front and center.

All in all, we enjoyed ourselves to the extent that both Secret and I could pretend to be younger than we are. We made a few new friends, too, who commented that it was "cool" that a straight couple could come out and party at a place like The Saint. We took that as high praise indeed.

Alas, if we'd only arrived early enough to get into the costume contest. $150 was up for grabs! :p

Happy Halloween!
