It's kinda like working in a bakery or ice cream shop. You might glut yourself on the goods when you first start working there, but you quickly lose the desire to eat sticky buns all day long, every day.

I visit the General Board a lot. You'd think political threads would get boring after a while.![]()

Quiet_Cool said:The GB... That does explain a lot. First off, on the GB, it really is just a porn board. But here, it's a little different. Basically, here we've developed a steady visitorship of people who do more than step into a thread, call someone a "Fag" or a "cunt" and then leave. There are many fewer visitors, and we've been called cliquish (I believe that was the word) by people from other boards because those who stop here and post regualrly have developed a sort of kinship with one another, across the world and back. The Gb tends to have too many bashing threads and too extreme a crowd. There, "It's just a porn board" works, because you really can't take things seriously there. You'd hate yourself and everyone else.
Basically, even our trolls are more distinct and acceptable.
And us? A porn board? No, we're an erotic fiction board. At least in the AH. Might be different elsewhere, though.

Typo Fu Master said:I have definately noticed a difference between the General Board and all the other fora on Lit, but I put that down to the fact that the GB is unmoderated. I think I would see similar antics here and on the other moderated sections if they were unmoderated.
I don't know for certain how pervasive the "porn board" mentality is. I know I see it on the GB, and I have seen people who like to post there use it in other areas. It makes me wonder if it's just a GB phenomenon. It's not a really big deal, just a shame because even though the GB attracts lots of lobotomized sea scum, there are still many topics that I enjoy reading, if not replying to.
Quiet_Cool said:Like El said, we're unmoderated here as well. However, on here, we don't really need that mentality. Basically, the lobotomized seascum you mentioned (seascum, not seacats I mind you) aren't really interested in being here. They come in, make a few comments (or post a few pictures) then we ignore them and they leave. More or less, everyone moderates in that regard. We've had one person that some consider a recurrent troll (save for the few we seem to have adopted as AH regulars, troll or not--or the one, CV might just be them all) and some of us aren't so certain she should be given the "TROLL" title. Trolls want reactions, and they often recieve them here the way they do elsewhere.
*shrug*
Welcome, if I haven't said so before. Although I do believe I've seen you around here before.

Typo Fu Master said:Thanks, and thanks to all of you who have replied in my thread. I was unaware Author's Hangout is unmoderated. Perhaps the title puts most of the trolls off.
I know of the "troll" you're speaking of, and while she is capable of mischief, she also started quite a few decent, thought provoking threads.
English Lady said:Yeah, you might be on to summat there Typo (or would you prefer Master?) As jsut the name of this forum intimidated me when I first landed on planet Lit. I did lurk a bit, and got even more intimidated by all the wise authors round here, then i got a little bit brave and began to post, just every now and then and at osme point i realised the Author types weren't that scarey really, and here I am.
The name might just intimate to the troll type, that theres not much fun to be had around here *L*
