It's Friday night!

hows the hangover from last night?

Evening!

No problems here! And VM seems pretty chipper so it doesn't seem he's been affected.

Very shortly we'll begin the process all over again for tonight.

:)

Where the F*%# is everyone?

Don't tell me you people all went out and got lives and left me here alone!?
Heh. Poor duck. I had a fabulous evening last night. Come here and I'll take you with me next time. I'm thinking people in that bar will be quite entertained by a talking duck. :D

Amen to that. I came home and crashed for an hour. HM will be very late getting home from work so making dinner can be a leisurely affair, even if it is my simple but delicious Improved Fish Chowder ™. And since I have slipped off the diet wagon for the last couple of days, I will chill a Riesling to go with it. Perhaps even a mixed green salad, as well, as a reminder that tomorrow I will need to behave myself again--until Christmas Eve, of course. And then Christmas Day follows. After that, it's once again forward and thinward until Chicago! I wonder how much more weight I can lose by March . . .

Well, I left at 5 pm for the dress rehearsal of the Virginia Oratorio Society Christmas concerts scheduled for tomorrow and have slid home at 10:30. Eight inches of snow in central Virginia since 4 pm and not supposed to end until after noon tomorrow. The chances are slim that I'll be able to get out of the driveway tomorrow to actually sing in the concerts. I certainly hope they are postponed or just canceled. Took me an hour to get there (6 miles) and probably three-quarters of an hour to get home. Accidents all over the place.

Snerk!

One of my colleagues reported, while standing on the porch waving "Good-bye" and "Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays" to the departing kiddies, that the previous evening he had been singing "Oh, the weather outside is frightful . . ." and stopped in mid refrain. He looked down and saw that he was barbecuing in the backyard wearing shorts and a T-shirt. The irony cracked him up and the story sent the rest of the adults into gales of laughter. Yeah, from the viewpoint of the Left Coast, snow is something that happens to other people. ;)

Yeah, well, this weather rarely happens in central Virginia, too. Almost all the winter storms come from the west and dump most of the snow on the Blue Ridge Mountains before reaching us (and sometimes picking up speed again before the storm gets to Richmond). The last storm like this here was in 1996 (in which I managed to drive to Charlottesville at night from Washington, D.C. in my old Camry sedan, with all those SUVs in the ditches). Which, of course, means no one here knows how to drive in it. I tooled along in my Forester and would have done quite well if all of those big 4x4 SUVs weren't sliding around into each other in front of me. (What ARE those things good for anyway?)

Lit must be made up of a bunch of serious party people because on Fridays it's empty. I find that strange, given the evident age of many of the participants. What do middle-aged-plus people do on Friday nights en masse? I wish they'd invite me along. Well, maybe not tonight. My innards are queasy for some reason. But usually . . .

Hm, well, I was busily drinking Smithwick's Irish Ales and explaining to my middle two children how it is that the rest of my family is rather socially and intellectually backward and that I would bet on any one of my kids over nearly any of the other adults (my cousins, aunts, etc) except for my grandma and my dad.

The oldest decided she was too hot to stay home with the family and went out with friends from the beauty-school. She found an awesome band playing at a club, so now we know where we need to go one of these days.

Heh - I partied at home with the wife and kids...
